- Charlene Rose Kistner, 80, of rural Newton, died at 9:04 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Mrs. Kistner was born August 30, 1929, in Olney, the daughter of Charles and Helen ( Rehkemper) Zuber. She married Vincent "Jack" Kistner on October 12, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stringtown. He survives.
She was a farmer's wife and loving mother. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, fishing and playing cards. Most of all, she loved spending her time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved so dearly.
Mrs. Kistner is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jack Kistner, of Newton; four sons, Ed (wife Jane) Kistner, of Effingham, Allen (wife Carla) Kistner, of Jewett, Ron (wife Sharon) Kistner, of Neoga, and Rick (special friend Jackie Menke) Kistner, of Newton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene (wife Carolyn) Zuber, of Stringtown, and Paul (wife Helen) Zuber, of Stringtown; and sisters, Margaret (husband Francis) Meyer, of Wheeler, Catherine Humphries, of Springfield, and Marcella Flaminio of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Cyril and Francis Zuber.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with Fr. Al Kemme officiating.
Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Newton.
Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home of Newton is assisting the family with arrangements.
