- Curtis W. Ross, 72, of Oblong, Illinois passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong.
Born in Clay City, Illinois on November 5, 1941, he was the son of Paul Clifford Ross and Genell Effie (Winchester) Ross. On September 5, 1941, he married Sandra Lee Jenkins and she survives.
Curtis owned and operated Ross Oil Company from 1970 to 2005 when Curtis sold the business to his brother-in-law Jack Jenkins. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Oblong; Robinson Elks Lodge #1188; Illinois Oil and Gas Association; and member of the Oblong Oil Field Museum. Curtis enjoyed raising cattle, working in the oil field and working and supporting his church where he was an elder for many, many years.
Survivors include: his wife, Sandra of Oblong; two daughters and son-in-law: Becky Legg of Oblong and fiancé" Charles Smith of Flat Rock; Tammy and Rod Williams of Oblong; four grandchildren: Matthew Williams; Shonda and Tyler Wade; Brandon and Erica Williams and Curtis Legg; three great-grandchildren: Kerrigan Williams, Ashton Roberts and Keegan Rosson; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Jackie and Cindy Davis, Springfield, IL.; Bill and Betty Davis, Lakeland, Fl.; Shelby and Jennifer Davis, Flora, I; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Sandra and Budgie Harmon, West Liberty, IL; Darla Kroeger, Effingham, IL.; and Marsha Kroeger, Carbondale, IL.; several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul Ross and Genell E. Davis Kroeger; brothers: Jim Ross and Joe Davis; an infant sister Brenda Davis.
