    • Bernice Dorothy Carter, 96, of Grayville, died Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville. She was born December 9, 1916, in Crowell, Tx., the daughter of Robert Rufus "R.R." and Hattie Moss (Wade) Rochell. She was married to Alfred E. Carter and he preceded her in death in the year 2000.
      She was a member of the Crossville Missionary Baptist Church, a farm wife and homemaker. Her family was of utmost importance to her.
      Survivors include sons Herman (Pat) Carter of Newaygo, Mich., and Charles "Alfred C." (Billie) Carter of Holly Springs, Ms.; daughter-in-law Royce Jennings Carter of Kit Carson, Colo.; daughters Mary J. Handel of Grayville, Glenda May (Tom) Mitchell of Crossville, and Barbara (James) Cain of Stanton, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
      She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Edmund Carter; and brothers R.D., Clifton and David Carter.
      Visitation and funeral are Monday, January 28, 2013, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Crossville. Visitation is at noon and the funeral is at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Stokes Cemetery.
