- Samuel Sellers was the son of John Sellers and Sarah Crouse Sellers. He was born May 10 1842 in Monroe Co Ohio.Died in Xenia, Clay Co. Illinois.Married first Permelia Jane Miller on September 14 1865 in Noble Co. Ohio. Permelia was born December 24 1847 in Monroe Co. Ohio died November 13 1876 in Wayne Co. Il. She is buried by Samuels father, John Sellers at the Pleasant Grove Cemetary in Wayne County Il. Samuel bought his wife and father matching tombstones. Second Samuel married Writha J. Centers born Feb. 7 1839 died Jan 20 1918 Xenia Clay Co. Il. She is buried beside Samuel in the Odd Fellows Cemetary also I don't know who Writha's parents were but our line goes through Permelia Jane Miller Sellers. She was the Daughter of Jacob Miller and Jane Scarborough. Samuel lived in Ohio until 1881 then moved to be near his family, first in Wayne Co. Illinois then moved to Xenia Clay Co. Il. Which is nearby Wayne Co. He then Purchased the tombstones when Permelia Died in 1876 for her and his father that didn't have a stone. Samuel served his country in the Civil War for 4 years. He was in the 31 Regiment Ohio Volunteers. He was honorably discharged July 1865. at Louisville Ky. Samuel was discribed in his Pension Papers from service to his country as only 5 Foot 3 inches tall. Grey Eyes and sandy hair . Samuel was in several battles in the war. His regiment participated in Shermans march to the sea and was there at Savannah Georgia December 10 through the 21 1864 at the Seige of Savannah Georgia. also at Chattanooga Tennessee Battle. Samuel had a sunstroke from the march from Raleigh North carolina to Richmond Virginia. A walk of about 170 miles. Permelia and samuel had the following children together. Mary Jane born July 20 1867- John James born Oct 15 1868. Phebe Ellen born June 20 1869 Nancy Ann bornJune 15 1870 Sarah M. born Dec. 29 1873 and Elmer Jacob born Sept 5 1875. Samuel was remembered by his great Grandson Charlie Odis sellers. He said Samuel had a good sense of humor. When the children would come over his house that Samuel had bought his own casket and Samuel would raise up out of the casket to scare the Grandkids. When Samuel died the family had to replace the lining inside because Samuel had worn it out raising up and down in it so many times
