Samuel Allen Tate was born and resided in Marion County, Illinois on April 23, 1842 and enlisted a a Private at age 19 on October 7, 1861 for three years.
He was by occupation a farmer and unmarried at enlistment. He was 5 11 tall and had light hair, blue eyes and a light complexion. He reenlisted on January 30, 1864 as a Veteran at Scottsboro, Alabama by Lt. Summers He was mustered out of the army on July 24, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky by Captain Alexander.
He died October 26, 1891 in Xenia, Clay County, Illinois and is buried at Tolliver Cemetery, Louisville, Clay County, Illinois.
He was a cousin to Adolphus and Benjamin Tate of this company.
