- Charles H. Vandaveer was born November 21st, 1837, near Mt. Erie, Illinois.
He was a veteran of the Civil War and was wounded in the battle of Shiloh.
After the war ended he moved to Flora, where he was married to M. E. Barnhlll, Nov 15, 1871. She died March 18th 1882. To this union was born four children. Three of them living: J. O. Vandaveer, of WItchlla, Kansas; C. F. Vandaveer, of Elkhart, Kansas: Mrs. N. V. Rowe, of Paris, Ill. L. A. Vandaveer, of Kansas City, Mo., died March 12th, 1922.
The deceased moved to Decatur, Ill., in February 1889, and in February 1906, he moved to a farm near Elkhart, Kansas, where he passed away on Christmas day, 1922.
Funeral services were held from the Hancock funeral home. Flora, Ill., Thursday, Dec. 28, conducted by Rev. W. I. Terhune, pastor of the Flora Methodist Episcopal church.
Interment al Elmwood cemetery.
Many old Flora friends of the Vandaveer family attended the obsequies.
