- Willis J. Payne, 56, of Whittington died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Burial will be in the Ewing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born in Christopher on Nov. 6, 1954, the son of Jack and Margaret (Allaway) Payne.
He married Carrie (Gregory) on Nov. 26, 1977, and she survives.
Mr. Payne was a farmer for many years, and had been a volunteer with the Ewing-Northern Fire Department. Willis owned and operated with his family the Payne Mowing Service.
Mr. Payne is survived by his wife, Carrie Payne of Whittington; children, Lesli and Steve Spitzner of Clay City, Jim and Brandee Payne of Ewing, Jeremy Payne and fiancée Elizabeth Jeter of Benton, Jordan Payne of Whittington and Jilissa Payne of Whittington; grandchildren, Peyton and Paige Spitzner, Lane and Allee Wellen, Jaxson and Emmerson Payne, Kaitlyn Manning and Kynlee Payne; two sisters, Jeanne Cremeens and husband, Scott, of Florida, and Carolyn Anderson and husband, Bill, of Altamont; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents and by an aunt, Wilma Sturm.
