- James K. Hall was born to Silas Hall and Jane Foster-Hall in Delphi, Ohio. In 1858 the family moved to Martin County, Indiana. James served in the Civil War in Company K, Indiana 143rd Infantry Regiment. In 1870 he and America Rogers married and they had six children that survived to adulthood. James was a telegraph operator and station agent for many years and also operated a mercantile business. He had been a Grand Officer in the Order of Odd Fellows.
