- On April 23, 2023, Kurt Snell, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at the age of 60 years young. Kurt was born at the Clay County Hospital in Flora, Illinois on October 20, 1962 and lived most of his life in Noble and Clay City.
Kurt was a career oilfield worker, a roughneck through and through and worked as a derrick hand. Some would even consider him a legend as he survived a rig explosion and had to jump from the derricks.
Kurt loved all things camo, being outside, riding his four-wheeler, and most importantly, his children. He leaves behind his strong willed children and grandchildren, as well as so many friends who vow to carry on his dirty sense of humor, love for nature, and ornery legacy.
Kurt is survived by son, Derek Snell; daughter, Kirstie Snell; daughter, Faith Yates and husband, Kyle; son, Hunter Allen; and grandchildren, James Foster and Audrey Yates.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billie Gene Snell; mother, Mabel Stella (Franklin) Sharp; stepfather, Marvin Sharp; and his infant sister.
A funeral service for Kurt will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior to service time. In his honor, please wear your camo gear and comfortable clothes.
Interment will take place on at Clay City Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials can be made through GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/7103edb4 to assist the family with funeral expenses or can be made directly to Kistler Patterson Funeral Home.
Kurts family would like to give special thanks to HSHS Hospice of Effingham for their care and support.
