    • Harold L. "Smokey" Padgett, 84, of Noble passed away on October 11, 2014 in Olney, IL.

      Smokey was born July 27, 1930 in Wayne County, IL, the son of Victor and Beatrice (Thomas) Padgett.

      He married Janet Prosser on December 29, 1982 in Noble.

      Smokey enjoyed camping, fishing, and bluegrass music. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. In his younger years he was a stock car driver at the White Squirrel Speedway in Olney. Smokey was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a Lifetime Member of the VFW. He was a member of North Freedom Baptist Church.

      He is survived by his wife, Janet Padgett of Noble; daughters, Debra Hoffner and husband John of West Salem, IL, Penny Runyon and husband Mike of Pace, FL, Rebecca Bell and husband Jim of Sumner, IL, and Rita McCormack and husband Todd of Noble; sons, Leslie Padgett of Noble and Kevin Weiss and wife Beth of Noble; sisters, Joyce Murphy and husband Schuylar of Roosevelt, UT and Bonnie Long and husband Bob of Olney; brother, Jerry Padgett and wife Nancy of Claremont, IL; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Buddy, and sister, Wanda Tomason.
