- Mr. Donald Myron Jake Bissey, 80, of Clay City, Illinois, died at 4:05 a.m., Tuesday, February 02, 2016, at his home.
On March 6, 1935, Jake was born to John Milner and Verda Bernice (Rogers) Bissey in Clay County, Illinois. He married Marilyn J. Gordon on September 28, 1954, in Clay City, Illinois.
He worked in the oil business for over 40 years, retiring from the J.W. Rudy Oil Company in 1997 where he served as foreman. He was baptized at Bethel Methodist Church. He was a volunteer fireman for the Clay City Fire Department from March of 1973 to February of 1991 when he retired from the department. He was an active member of his community giving much of his time and many of his talents; he truly enjoyed helping others. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, gardening, lawn work, and deer hunting. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and liked puzzles and snowmobile riding. Spending time with his dogs, Lady and Little Lady, was a great joy. Above all, he loved his family.
Jake is survived by his daughter Dona G. Bissey and son David E. Bissey; five grandchildren, Darlene (Jim) Coffin; Jacque (Tom) Holsapple, Jacob Cowger, Brian Keesler and Mariah Wade; four great grandchildren, Mitchell, Jonathan, Sarah and Rachel, and brother, William Lee Bissey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marilyn J. Bissey on July 8th, 2009, eight brothers and four sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Kohn Funeral Home in Flora, Illinois.
Burial will follow at Zif Cemetery in rural Wayne County. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2016, at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to Clay County Hospice or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.
