    Notes:

    Captola Lorene Barbee, age 95, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.

    Captola was born February 5, 1922, in Palestine, Arkansas, the daughter of Lewis E. and Rinda (Coble) Hamilton. She married Lloyd Reynolds on October 29, 1939, in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1981. She later married Donald “Bud” Barbee on April 10, 1985. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1994.

    Captola grew up in a close and loving family of 10 children. She worked as a pet groomer for several years, was a member of the Transformation Church of God in Clay City, and enjoyed fishing. Captola had a love of music and playing the guitar. She and Lloyd would play in churches, and later she and Bud played at the Bible Grove Opry. Captola loved her family and always looked forward to attending the annual Hamilton Reunion.

    Captola is survived by her daughter: Connie Lee Wilson (husband Jim); a step-daughter: Sharon Bailey; two grandsons: James Wilson, and Jon Wilson (wife Cindy);two step-granddaughters: Becky Monical and Paula Slover; ten great-grandchildren: Michael Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Spencer Kellison (Samantha), Jordan Kellison, Evan Kellison, Tristen Wilson, Dakota Wilson, Maleah Wilson, and Jaide Wilson; several step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren: Grayson Kellison, Hayden Kellison, and Arianna Kellison; a brother: Donald Hamilton; a sister: Leona Totten; and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; four brothers: Earl, Raymond, Clint, and Louis Hamilton; and three sisters: Lena Colclasure, Violet Wheeler, and Dorothy VanDyke.

    A funeral service for Captola Barbee will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at Transformation Church of God in Clay City, with Pastor Cory Respondek officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.

    A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home and from 1-2 p.m. on Monday at the church.

    Memorial contributions in Captola’s memory may be given to the Transformation Church of God.

    Leona M. Pemberton Totten, age 97, of Flora, Illinois passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Flora Gardens Care Center.

    She was born January 3, 1924, in Goodwin, Arkansas, the daughter of Louis Elmer and DuRinda “Rinda” (Coble) Hamilton. She was united in marriage to William Laverne Pemberton on May 17, 1942, in Louisville, and together they shared 41 wedding anniversaries until his death December 27, 1983. She later married James F. Totten on June 29, 1985, in Flora, and he preceded her in death on April 17, 2015.

    Leona had worked at the International Shoe Company, Sparton Manufacturing, and Clay County Hospital, working in the kitchen. Her dedication to faith was evident in her memberships at First Christian Church in Flora and Antioch Church in Olney. She was a 50-year member and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah’s and sang with the Rebeka Quartet. Leona enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. She loved fishing, sewing, crafts, playing cards and dominoes, and always looked forward to attending the annual Hamilton Reunion at Charlie Brown Park. Leona also enjoyed time spent traveling and during a trip to Israel , she and her husband Jim were rebaptized in the Jordan River.

    She is survived by a son: Tom (Maria “Button”) Pemberton of Flora; son-in-law: Ed (Dena) McCracken of Clay City; stepchildren: Larry (Nancy) Totten of Olney and Linda Craig of Calhoun; 7 grandchildren: Chris (Alicia) Wildbur, Chad Pemberton, Eddie (Jolene) McCracken Jr., Jami (Tony) Gibbons, Jacki (the late Mike) Sehie, Keith (Linda) England, John (Mary) England; 13 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; brother-in-law: Elmo Pemberton of Mooresville, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 2 daughters: Janet England and Vickie McCracken; a grandson: David Pemberton; great-grandson: Mark England; 5 brothers: Earl, Raymond, Clinte, Louie, and Don Hamilton; 4 sisters: Lena Colclasure, Dorothy Stanford VanDyke, Violet Wheeler, and Captola Reynolds Barbee; 3 brothers-in-law: Roy, Harold, and Dean Pemberton; 3 stepsons: George Totten, Leroy Totten, and David Totten; and step-son-in-law: John Craig.

    A graveside ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Floral Garden of Memories Cemetery in Flora. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry or White Fields Worldwide Ministry and will be accepted through the funeral home.

    Earl "Hambone" Eldon Hamilton, age 88, of Louisville, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at 2:42 am, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

    Hambone was born on October 5, 1929, in Clay County, IL, the son of the late Earl Theodore Hamilton and the late Juanita Cornelia (Lynn) Hamilton.

    He was self employed as an oil driller, carpenter and farmer. He spent many years as an antique dealer and finisher and loved to go to sales.

    Hambone is survived by wife Betty (Brown) Hamilton of Louisville; sons Mike Hamilton, Greg (Deanna) Hamilton, and Kim (Shari) Hamilton all of Flora; daughters Ava Siterlet of Springfield, IL and Trudy (Dave) Koontz of Flora; twenty-nine grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren.

    Arrangements are entrusted to J.W. Neal Funeral Home of Louisville where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 1, 2017. A private family services and burial will take place at a later date.

    Jim owned and operated Stanford Body Shop for over 60 years and was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and had served on the parish council. He served on the Flora Volunteer Fire Department for many years and took great pride in having restored and painted the department’s 1937 antique fire truck. His memberships included the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Sons of the American Legion, and had been a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. Jim loved fishing and enjoyed fish fries with family, was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, and would meet every morning with Joe Martin and his coffee shop friends. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, and friend.

    Thomas Lewis Pemberton, age 75, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 7, 2024, at his home.

    He was born September 20, 1948, in Effingham, the son of William Laverne and Leona Marie (Hamilton) Pemberton. He was united in marriage to Maria Elena “Button” Schoonover on October 31, 1975, in Louisville, and together they shared 46 wedding anniversaries until her passing on April 29, 2022.

    Tom served in the U.S. Army, 97th Engineers stationed in Stuttgart, Germany during the Vietnam war era. He had worked as a plumbing contractor, owning and operating Pemberton Plumbing & Construction, and had been a past owner and operator of East End Liquors in Flora. Tom enjoyed woodworking and designing and building furniture. Along with his son Chad, and other family members, Tom built a log cabin from discarded telephone poles in the woods close to the Little Wabash River which provided many precious memories of family gatherings, deer hunting, and cookouts with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Flora American Legion Post 14, and had served as past Commander. Spending time with his special companions, his fur babies Scrappy, Twinkie, and Fred the cat always brough him great joy.

    He is survived by his children: Jami Marie (Tony) Gibbons of Louisville, Jacki Michele Sehie of Flora, Chad (Deana) Pemberton of Flora, and William Christopher (Alicia) Wildbur of Edgewood; grandchildren: Jenifer (Brandon) Gibbons of Flora, Jason Gibbons of Flora, Gabriel (Kelsey) Gibbons of Louisville, Mackenzi Windle of Flora, Bart Briscoe of Flora, Sydney (Mason) Rudolphi of Noble, Dallas Mulvaney, Teagan (Zeb) Pemberton of Johnsonville, Brian Pemberton of Flora, Bailey (Marcus) Fleming of Olney, Jayden Fleming of Olney, and Halli Stanley of Flora; great-grandchildren: Eli Schnepper, Elena Powless, Alexa, Mariah, and Zaine Gibbons, Ethan, Emma, Aaron, and Anderson (A.J.)     A graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Floral Garden of Memories Cemetery in Flora. Military funeral honors will be presented at 1 p.m. followed by a Masonic service and a committal ceremony officiated by John England. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Cancer Crusaders, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.
