    Clay D. Bayler, 92, of Olney, died at 1:24 a.m. Monday, October 11, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Zirkle Funeral Home with Reverend Keith MICHAELS officiating. Burial will be held in Hope Chapel at Crest Haven Memorial Park. He married Neva REICHELDERFER June 1, 1946, in Columbus, OH. She survives.

    He was Chief Officer of Administrative Services for the United States Government and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Olney City Council from 1973 to 1977. He served as president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees for the Richland County Chapter. He won the WVLN Community Service Award in 1973. He was a member of the Department of Meritorious Civilian Service in 1945.Mr. BAYLER was a hospital volunteer for many years. He worked for Junior Achievement and had served as Chairman of the Heart Fund Drive. He was a member of the Clay City Lodge #488 AF & AM, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Southern Illinois.

    Mr. BAYLER is survived by his wife, Neva BAYLER, of Olney; two sons, Richard C. BAYLER and his wife Sandy of Clay City and David L. BAYLER and his wife Joann of Paris; one brother Carroll BAYLER of Louisville; four grandsons, Scott, Matthew, Jared and Travis BAYLER.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

    Memorials may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church.

    Mary Marjorie Bayler, 78, of Olney (formerly of Evansville, IN) died Sept. 14, 1991 at Richland Memorial Hospital.

    Miss Bayler was born Nov, 19, 1912 in Clay City, the daughter of Aaron and Leora Clay Bayler.

    She was a retired state employee of State Unemployment Service of Indiana.

    Miss Bayler is survived by two brothers, Carroll and Clay Bayler and several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

    Funeral services were at Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Clay City.

    Memorials may be made to the National Arthritis Foundation.

    H. Carroll BAYLER, 84, of Louisville, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

    Mr. BAYLER was born Sept. 18, 1915, in Stanford Township, the son of Aaron and Lenora (CLAY) BAYLER. He married Mary J. BREWER on Aug. 30, 1943. He was a lawyer and oil producer, and member of the Louisville Rotary Club, Louisville United Methodist Church, Louisville Masonic Lodge. He had also been States Attorney, and was a retired Major in the Army Reserves, after serving 24 years.

    Survivors include his wife, Mary J. BAYLER of Louisville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John BAYLER of Clay City, and Bill and Marla BAYLER of Olney; and two grandchildren, Amanda Jane and Nathan William.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and two sisters.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Louisville United Methodist Church. The Reverend Robert THOMPSON will officiate the services. Neal Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Masonic rites will be held at 5:45 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Military rites will be given by the Sailor Springs American Legion. Memorials can be made to the H. Carroll BAYLER History Scholarship Fund, which will be accepted at the funeral home.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on October 16, 1941 at Peoria, Illinois. Completed basic training and departed the U.S. for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Served there as a Driver in the East Indies and Guadalcanal Campaigns untitil accepted for the Field Artillery Officer Candidate Course 93 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Honorably discharged as a Corporal on December 29, 1943 to accept a commission as Second Lieutenant and active duty the next day. Attended the Officer Survey Course and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Reconnaissance Officer (9312). Departed the Continental U.S. again on November 30, 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and fought with Battery A, 259th Field Artillery Battalion (a XIX Corps non-divisional unit equipped with 4.5 inch guns), through the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably separated from active service as a First Lieutenant on January 22, 1946 at the Separation Center, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
