Billy Joe Herdes, 81, of Noble, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Bill was born on January 28, 1937 in Olney, IL, the son of John W. and Margaret (Hasler) Herdes.

He married Alice Clara (Stark) on June 6, 1957 and she preceded him in death on February 6, 1999.

Bill was a US Army Veteran serving in Germany. He worked in the construction trade for nearly 50 years. It's hard to travel around in this area and not see a home that was built by Bill Herdes and Charlie Kuhl. Bill worked on the construction of the CIPS Newton Power Plant. Bill was an avid hunter and raised bird dogs, he also loved horses and enjoyed traveling with his family to horse shows. He was a gun and tractor collector. Bill followed the sports teams of his children for many years and made a lasting impression on the people he met with his unique character. In his later years he took pleasure in visiting with his friends daily on the front porch of his home. He will be missed by all those that knew him. He lost the love of his life, Alice, in 1999. Together they shared 41 years and they were rarely apart.

Bill is survived by his son, Rick Herdes and wife Sarah of Evansville, IN; son, Wayne Herdes and wife Cindy of Noble; daughter, Bridget Kibler and husband Ken of Passport, IL; daughter, Brenda Coffey and husband Don of Ashmore, IL; grandchildren, Taylor (Andrew) Nichols, Connor Herdes, Macy Coffey, Hannah (Brandon Wolfe) McCarty, Olivia (Nate) Blakemore, and Cash Herdes; sisters, Winnie Forrester, Alta Mary Lewis, and Tamera Herdes Hayes; brother, Bob Herdes; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends who checked in on him every day.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society.
