    "Arch", as he is commonly and otherwise known, because of his generosity, his open heart to everyone, will be remembered by, not only the little boys and girls who always found within him, a real friend, but all others. His physical heart, thouggh weak for the last few months of his life, that loving heart for his family and friends grew larger and stronger. "Arch", Daddy, Grand-Daddy, and a good friend, is gone. May his example of life and living among his friends leave an influence to the betterment of the Lord's people.

    She was a homemaker. She was a member of Clay City United Methodist Church. Madeline grew up, went to school, married and raised a family in Clay City. She moved to O’Fallon with her daughter and son-in-law (Sue and Joe Kralovec) in 1983 and then joined them again when they moved to Alpharetta, Ga., in 1988. She was active in Alpharetta Senior Citizens especially the Friendship Club and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

    Madeline was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother -- the glue that held the family together. She was loved by all and will be sadly missed.

    William R. "Boone" Hiser, 81, of Olney, IL, formerly of Clay City, died November 4, 2004 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

    Mr. Hiser was born July 16, 1923 in Clay County, the son of William and Lila Hunley Hiser. he married Lois Praxel September 14, 1945.

    He worked for the Ill. Dept. of Corrections and formerly the Clay County Sheriff's Dept., and was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 3rd Infantry.

    Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Welty and Karyl Eikleberry; one sister, Patsy Cordell; two grandchildren; and step-grandchildren and nephews.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother and a sister.

    Private family graveside services were held at the Clay City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Olney Veterans Organizations.

    Summers-Kistler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on 23 February 1943. Trained as an Amphibian Transportation Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). Departed the Continental U.S. on 23 November 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Saw combat through Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns with Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment, 76th Infantry Division. Awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, The American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Honorable discharge as a Corporal on 8 December 1945.
