    John Edwin Colclasure, 85, of Newton died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney.

    The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, with burial in Oskaloosa Cemetery, rural Xenia. Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the funeral home.

    Mr. Colclasure was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Clay County, the son of Richard Arthur and Goldie Dean (Sutton) Colclasure.

    He was a retired aerospace electrician for the U.S. Navy where he served for 21 years. Mr. Colclasure was a member of Navy Fleet Reserve.

    Survivors include his sons, Steven Blake (wife, Cindy) Colclasure of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Peter Lance (wife, Belinda) Colclasure of Crestview, Fla.; brother, Orville (wife, Alice) Colclasure of Clay City; sister, Minnie Ramsey of Sullivan; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Edwin Colclasure Jr.; three brothers; and five sisters.

    Military Service:
    Enlisted and entered active service on January 10, 1941 at Effingham, Illinois. Completed boot camp at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois and attended the aviation radio school at Naval Air Station, San Diego, California. Thereafter asassigned to Naval Air Station, Kodiak, Alaska and served aboard the carrier USS Randolph (CV-15). Reassigned to Composite Squadron VC-15, Naval Air Station, Los Alamitos, California and served aboard the escort carrier USS Tulagi (CVE-72). Earneed The Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Honorably discharged as an Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class on February 17, 1946 at the Personnel Separation Center, U.S. Navy Reserve, Bremerton, Washington.
