Military Service:
Entered active service as a draftee on May 22, 1942 at East Saint Louis, Illinois. Selected for the Coast Artillery Corps, completed basic training, and specialized in the military occupational specialty of Light Truck Driver (345). Departed the Continental U.S. on April 29, 1943 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and fought with Battery C, 406th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, 45th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Brigade in the Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Northern Apennines and Po Valley Campaigns. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one silver and one bronze battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Technician 5th Grade on October 18, 1945 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
