    Notes:

    Since he grew up working on his granddad's farm as a young man in Clay County, IL, he developed a true passion for farming which continued throughout his life. He enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1942 to 1945 in World War II in both North Africa and Italy.

    After his return from the war, Jack worked for the Uniroyal Tire Company in Detroit, MI where he lived until his retirement. He resided in Alabama since his retirement in 1976. He and Jewel have been members of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Chuurch for all those years. Jack was active in the American Legion, serving as a Commander, the VFW, President of Civitan and the Masonic Lodge. His love of farming continued until age 72 when the sport of golf became his new passion and he enjoyed that wonderful sport with family and friends well into his 80's.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on October 13, 1942 at Camp Grant, Illinois. Selected for the Army Air Forces, completed basic training, attended the 19 week airplane mechanics service school, and later qualified in the military occupational specialty of administrative non-commissioned officer (502). Departed the Continental U.S. on August 21, 1943 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 312th Depot Repair Squadron, 41st Air Depot Group through the Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno Campaigns. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Sergeant on December 1, 1945 at the Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.
