Enlisted in the Regular Army and entered active service on June 11, 1946 at East Saint Louis, Illinois. Completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Guard (mos 577). Departed the Continental U.S. on September 26, 1946 bound for the Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with Battery B, 865th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, engaged in the occupation of Japan. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on November 24, 1947 at Fort Lawton, Washington. Earned the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan).
