    William "Bill" Pierce, 83, of Clay City, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

    Mr. Pierce was born September 1, 1928, in Clay County, the son of William H. and Gladys (Holdren) Pierce. He married Evelyn Rhoads on February 20, 1949, in Clay City. She survives.

    He was a U.S. Steel Field Rep and worked in oil well supply. He was a member of Clay City Christian Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and member of American Legion Post #840.

    Mr. Pierce is survived by his wife, Evelyn Pierce, of Clay City; daughter, Janice Diane Pierce, of North Carolina; daughter, Shelly Ann Kamei, of California; grandson, Zachary William Pierce, of North Carolina; great-grandson, William Orneal Pierce II, of North Carolina; nephew, Stephen Haught, of Wisconsin; and nephew, Terry Haught, of Arkansas.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Pierce, two sisters, and one nephew, William Haught.

    Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Minister Darrel Brandon officiating.

    Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Clay City veterans.

    Memorials may be made to Clay City Christian Church or American Legion Post #840.
