    Donald Edward Stanley, 88, of Louisville died at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

    Mr. Stanley was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Hoosier Township, the son of Walter Peyton and Catherine (Van Houten) Stanley. He married Luanna Ellen Dillman Sept. 1, 1951 at Hoosier Baptist Church.

    A farmer, Mr. Stanley was a member of the Clay County Farm Bureau and Ingraham Christian Church.

    He is survived by his wife, Luanna; son, James Stanley; daughter, Jane Morris; sisters, Erma Blessman and Norma Lambert; grandchildren, Rachel Morris and Katie Morris; and great-grandchild, Jackson Morris.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

    Funeral services were held at Ingraham Christian Church, Ingraham with the Rev. Ron Payne officiating.

    Burial was in Ingraham Cemetery, Ingraham.

    LAWRENCEVILLE — Norma Cathryn (Stanley) Lambert, 88, of Lawrenceville passed away Tuesday (March 12, 2019) at Meadowbrook at Clark Lindsay Village, Urbana.

    She was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Louisville, Ill., to Walter and Kate (Van Houten) Stanley. Norma married Gene Lambert. After raising a family and having a beautiful life together, Gene preceded Norma in death in 1997.

    She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, where she was very active and a member of the church choir. She was also a member of the Chi Rho Women’s Circle. Not only was Norma a loving homemaker, but she also worked outside the home at Suttle Apparatus.

    Surviving family includes three sons, Vincent E. Lambert and wife Robin of Vinemont, Ala., Von E. Lambert and wife Brenda of White Heath and Stanley V. Lambert and wife Jennifer of Selma, Texas; five grandchildren, Jaimi (Ty), Jared (Sally), Jacob (Jenelle), Dylan and Haydn; and two great-granddaughters, Incielle and Olivia.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Kate Stanley; husband, Gene Lambert; three sisters; and five brothers.

    A funeral service for Norma Cathryn (Stanley) Lambert will be at noon Saturday, March 16, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, Lawrenceville, with Pastor Jonah Hamilton officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 10 a.m. until service time at noon. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, near Claremont. Cunningham-Young Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, is in charge of the arrangements.

    Donovan served as a Staff Sergeant on B-24L #44-41541, 394th Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

    He resided in Clay County, Illinois prior to the war.

    On the 30 April 1945, the 394th Bomb Squadron took off from Guiuan Air Strip, Samar Island, Philippine Islands, for a combat bombing mission on Davao, Mindanao Island, Philippine Islands. The flight to, and over the target, was successful. After they had completed dropping there bombs, they proceeded toward Morotai Island, in the Molucca Islands, where they planned to land.

    They were approximately thirty miles from Morotai Island, near Race Island, flying in their usual formation, when two of the airplanes in the formation collided. B-24M Serial No. 44-41869 and B-24L Serial No. 44-41541. The collision damaged both planes severely, causing them to crash into the ocean immediately. There were no survivors on either aircraft, and only one of the bodies was recovered, that of F/O Arthur B. Sobol, T-128 478, after a through search had been made by surface craft and low flying search aircraft.

    Donovan was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

    He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

    Barbara Lucille Sons, age 83, of Salem, Illinois, formerly of Flora, passed away Monday evening, December 23, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Kell.

    She was born December 9, 1936, in Hoosier Township, Clay County, the daughter of Leland E. and Lucy A. (Stanley) Cook. She was united in marriage to Lowell Beryl Sons on June 11, 1955, in Flora, and they shared 60 wedding anniversaries until his death March 15, 2016.

    Barbara worked at Sparton Manufacturing for 33 years until they closed their doors and she was able to take retirement. She loved to be outdoors taking walks, gardening, and watching nature. She liked to read, work word search puzzles, and go to thrift shops and rummage sales. She enjoyed family gatherings and chatting with her neighbors and old friends and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    She is survived by her children: Jeff (Paula) Sons of Centralia, Gary (Cindy) Sons of Woodbridge, VA, Carol (Ron) Pruitt of Kell, and Walter Sons (significant other Teresa Clifton) of Cisne; 12 grandchildren: Angela Smith, Nicci Sons, Stephanie Sons, Samantha Sons, Christopher Sons, Jeannie Sons, Amy Pruitt, Ronnie Pruitt, Caleb Pruitt, Jarod Sons, Crystal Sons, and Amy Hawkins; 10 great-grandchildren: Avery, Rowan, Neveah, Madison, Brayden, Paisley, Jaxson, Ramona, Gracie, and Colten; a brother: David (Cheri) Cook; and 2 sisters: Darlene (Jamey) Grimsley and Arlene (Jim) Zenisek.

    She was preceded in death by her parents: Leland and Lucy Cook; husband: Lowell Sons; 2 brothers: Allen Cook and Gerald Cook; and a granddaughter: Amber Dawn Sons.

    A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will take place at a later date in East Lawn Cemetery, Salem. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

    Gerald L. "Curly" Cook, 64, of Hazleton, IN, died March 4, 2006, at his home.

    Mr. Cook was born April 2, 1941 in Clay City, IL, the son of Leland and Lucy Cook of Flora. He married Audrene Cook.

    He was a retired mechanic for Ford Motor Co., and had worked as a trudk driver.

    He had lived in Hazleton, IN since 1987 and had previously lived in Tucson, AZ, and Princeton, IN.

    He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the N.R.A.

    Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cindy and Pam Cox; three step-sons, Randy, Michael, and Joseph Peil; three sisters, Barbars Sons, Arlene Zenisek, and Darlene Grimsley; one brother, David Cook; 11 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

    Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Allen Cook.

    Funeral services were held at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, IN with burial in Columbia (White Church) Cemetery.
