He was a music professor at St. Augustine College, Raleigh, N.C., and played the piano for more than 10 years with the Big Band musician Leon Jordan and the Continentals.

He was a graduate of Effingham High School and continued his education at the University of Illinois, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. He also did graduate work at the Peabody Institute, Baltimore.

He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed greatly.

Buried:
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today, March 9, at Clay City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Clay City, is in charge of arrangements.

Norma (daughter of Murvin, Walter Garland and ?, Susan Jane 'Susie') was born on 12 Jan 1931 in Clay City, Clay County, Illinois; died on 5 Feb 1991 in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina; was buried in Clay City Cemetery, Clay City, Clay County, Illinois.
