*Robert Lee Harmon, the son of Andrew and Rebecca Anna Emery Harmon was born April 2 1869 in Bonpas twp. Richland Co. Il. Departed this life May 23rd, 1945, at the age of 76 years, one month, 21 days.

In the year of 1890 he was united in marriage to Olive Barlett, and together they spent 54 years of happy married life. To this union were born ten children, Lee, Ida, Earl and Pearl, who are twins, Harvey, Howard, Henry, John, Elza and Raymond.... Howard, Henry, John, Elza and Raymond having preceded him in death.

Shortly after his marriage he and his wife became members of the Church of Christ. He lived and died in the Faith of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He was very active in church work as long as his health permitted. He served as an Elder in the Congregation at Olney and Contributed much to its support.

Among those that remain to mourn his passing, are his wife, five children, Mrs Frank Wilson, Lee, Earl, Pearl and Harvey, all of Olney, one brother Charley,two sisters Mrs Charley Totten of Noble, and Mrs. William Plumley of Olney, thirty-four grandchildren and eight great-grand children, and many other relatives and friends.

Garry was a stalwart on the East Richland High School track team last year and played on the football team during his sophomore year. He was quiet in his manners and was well-liked by his schoolmates and teammates. Young Harmon was considered an excellent sportsman during last year’s track season.

Died:
Garry Lee Harmon, 17 year-old East Richland High School junior, received fatal injuries at 5:10 p.m. yesterday evening, November 12, 1956, when the bicycle he was riding collided head-on with a car on State Route 130 in south-west Olney. The car was driven by Neil Jorgenson, 21 of Noble, IL.

According to city police, who investigated the fatal accident, the car, a 1953 Ford, was passing a truck, driven by Tom Bowling of Olney, on Route 130 near Hollister St., just south of the B & O viaduct. The car collided head-on with the bicycle, being operated by young Harmon. The bicycle was traveling south and the car was proceeding north. The bike hit the car near the right front bumper and fender. The Harmon boy was thrown into the air and then struck the windshield of the Jorgenson auto. The victim was then thrown into a ditch, apparently as Jorgenson applied the brakes.

Harmon was rushed to the Richland Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where the injuries proved fatal a short time after arrival.

Authorities said darkness had fallen when the accident happened and the bicycle was not lighted. An inquest into the fatal accident started at 1 o’clock this afternoon at the Richland County Courthouse, conducted by Deputy Coroner, Robert Schaub.

Elizabeth Anneda "Ann" Harmon Govers, age 81, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023. She was a native of Olney, IL and a longtime resident of Houma.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Barrington Bennett and husband, James W. Bennett, Jr. from Morgan City; stepchildren, Francis X. Buzalsky and husband John; grandchildren, Landon, Noah, James III, Ben, Daniel, Rachel, Bethany, Jessica, Corbin, Ryan; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters, Rosemary Bass, Juanita Runyon.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by the love of her life of 50 years, Francis X. Govers, II; parents, Pearl Harmon and Violet Dunlap Harmon; brothers, Raymond, Neil, Eddie Joe, Bob; sisters, Helen Harmon, Ruby Haws, Linda Sue Jackson.

Elizabeth was a member of the Thibodaux Amateur Radio Club and enjoyed going to the casino with her husband, Frank. She enjoyed looking up genealogy and helping people find their loved ones. Elizabeth loved spending time with Landon and Noah as well as her cat CoCo.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Neil O.A. Harmon, 57, of Olney died at 1:12 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at home.

Mr. Harmon was born June 2, 1942, in Olney, the son of Pearl and Violet (Dunlap) Harmon. He married Kathleen Pittman in 1971.

He was a retired employee of Prairie Farms in Olney with 20 years of service; member of American Legion Post 30 and Masonic Lodge 140, both of Olney, and Shriners Ainad Temple, East St. Louis; and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife; mother of Calhoun; four stepchildren; brothers, Robert of Calhoun, Raymond of Olney; sisters, Juanita Runyon and Linda Jackson, both of Olney, Ruby Haws of Calhoun, Anneda Govers, Rosemary Bass of Albion; two grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and one great-stepgrandchild.

As a young man, he played fast-pitch softball in Olney and later came to love the game of girls fast-pitch when his niece played at East Richland High School and Olney Central College. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who starred in various sports around the region. He especially was proud of his great-granddaughter who is one of America's best wake-boarders and talked about her often. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and everyone who knew him.

Jim worked for many years for Illini Builders in Olney doing carpentry and construction work. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball and going roller skating when he was younger. He also enjoyed going to local baseball and softball games. He was a member of the Olney Archers Club. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

She loved the Lord with all of her heart and was a member of First Assembly of God in Olney for many years. She volunteered at the Good Samaritan in Olney with her husband and church family. She enjoyed being a greeter at church and meeting new people. She loved drinking coffee at McDonald’s with her friends every morning. She loved doing puzzles and playing cards with her family and friends. She loved going shopping and traveling to different places, especially Branson with her husband. She had a knack for hummingbirds and would always have 20 or more at her house every year she would feed. When she was younger she would go square dancing and has always enjoyed socializing with people. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and she truly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. She loved going and watching them play or coach different sports and would never miss a game. She worked as a part time Deputy Circuit Clerk at the Richland County Court House and for Kex Garment Factory for many years. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Larry Junior Martin, age 72 of Olney, passed away at 5:27 AM on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 PM Saturday, August 27 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-6 PM. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Larry was born August 16, 1944 in Olney, the son of Harry and Ruth Marie (Wilson) Martin.

He later married Ana Hernandez on July 16, 2005 in Orlando, Florida. She survives.

He worked as an Engineer for many years. He also enjoyed owning and collecting older cars. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Larry is survived by his wife Ana Martin of Olney; mother Ruth Marie Martin; son Logan Martin and wife Lisa of Lowell, Michigan; step-son Nelson Ortiz of Florida; 3 daughters Antoinette Horton of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Leigha Wells of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Janaria Dunahee and husband Jared of Grand Rapids, Michigan; step-daughter Evelyn Ortiz of Florida and; 2 brothers, Norman Martin and wife Cindy of Gracin, Georgia and Allen Martin of Olney; 2 nieces and nephews and 4 great-nieces and nephews, 9 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Harry Martin, step-daughter Sandra Ortiz, son-in-law Bobby Horton, sister-in-law Sandy Martin, and great nephew Tommy Lomas.
