Katherine RaJean Gibbs, 79, of Flora,IL passed away at 9:00p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at her residence.
RaJean was born in Flora, Illinois to Thomas & Eliza (Rickard) Duke. RaJean graduated from Harter-Stanford Township High School in 1950 and later married Fred Gibbs on January 29, 1954 at the First Christian Church of Flora.
RaJean had been previously employed at the Flora Shoe Factory and later at Montgomery Ward and Spartans, however her main career was a homemaker. RaJean was a member of the Effingham Community of Christ Church. She loved to crochet, she has made countless afghans over the years and took great pride in donating many to organizations for raffles. She has made many hats for cancer patients. She loved spending time with family and friends and loved having backyard cookouts. She also loved shopping, traveling, playing games, putting jigsaw puzzles together and doing crossword puzzles with the family. In the last few weeks working the crossword puzzles gave her great joy.
RaJean is survived by two children Rick & wife Sherry Gibbs of Flora and one daughter Nancy Leak & companion Justin Cooper of Flora; five grandchildren, Nathan Gibbs of Salem, IL, Beth Gibbs of St. Charles, MO, Matt Leak of Flora, Mindy Musgrave & husband Evan of Flora and Josh Gibbs of St. Charles, MO, and one great granddaughter Corinne Gibbs of Salem, IL.
Rajean is preceded in death by her husband Fred Gibbs, her parents, 2 brothers Charles & Albert Duke, and 2 sisters Helen Morris and Lois Powless.
Services will be at the Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home in Flora with interment immediately following at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora.
Friends may call at Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 5-8p.m.
