    Gennelle F. Doris, 76, of Clay City, died May 21, 2000, at the Olney Care Center in Olney, IL.

    Mrs. Doris was born January 8, 1942, in Clay County, the daughter of Lynn and Leora Staley Pearce. She married Frank Doris May 17, 1947 in Flora and he preceded her in death May 27, 1967.

    She was a member of the American Legion Post #840 and American Legion Auxiliary of Clay City.

    Survivors include three sons, Rodney, Mark, and Donald Doris; a brother, Trevor Pearce; a sister, Juanita Crackel; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and two sisters.

    Graveside services were held at the Clay City Cemetery with full military rites.

    Summers-Kistler Funeral Home was in charge.

    Memorials to the American Cnacer Society.

    Military Service:
    Enlisted and entered active service on February 24, 1944. Completed basic training at the Naval Training Center, Women's Reserve (WAVES, Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), Bronx, New York, At Hunter College, and specialized as a Storekeeper. Assigned to and served at the Naval Barracks, Washington, D.C. honorably discharged as a Storekeeper First Class on August 5, 1946 at the Naval Personnel Separation Unit, Washington, D.C. earned the American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
