    Roy N. Cross, 89, of Flora died 6:20 p.m. Monday (Nov. 17, 1980) in Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney.

    Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in John T. Frank Funeral Home, Flora, with visitation 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery.

    Mr. Cross was born in Vincennes, Ind., son of Christian and Mary Cross.

    He was a crane operator.

    Surviving are sons, Virgil and Jack, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; John of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughters, Ethel Thomas of Flora; Wanda Peterson of South Dartmouth, Mass.; Bernice Egan of Birmingham, Ala.; stepsons, Clifford Fulk of Olney; Herman Fulk of Lockport; Harold Gilson of Whiteland, Ind.; step-daughter, Goldie Lenear of Olney; sister, Laura Schmidt of Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grand-children; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several step-grandchildren.

    Virgil Lee Cross, 73, Indianapolis, died Thursday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Flanner & Buchanan Farley Morris Street Mortuary, with calling from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. A machinist, he worked 30 years at Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors Corp., retiring in 1978. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County Heart Association. Survivors: wife, Mary E. Cross; son, James Lee Cross; sisters, Ethel Thomas and Bernice Cross; half sisters, Goldie Lenar and Wanda Cross; half brother, Harold Gibson.

    Charles Roy Thomas, age 87, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away early Saturday morning, March 13, 2021, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

    He was born August 31, 1933, in Flora, Illinois, the son of Stanford Charles and Ethel B. (Cross) Thomas. He was united in marriage to Norma June Hunt on June 12, 1954, and together they have shared 66 wedding anniversaries.

    Charles worked for the Clay City Banking Company for 19 years. He worked construction in the past and had founded and ran his own Oil Production Company for many years. He was a member of the Clay City Christian Church for 65 years where he served as a Sunday School teacher and had been involved in the construction of the church building. Charles had served on the Clay City Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, fixing computers, and helping others with computers. He also enjoyed his winters spent in Florida with his family.

    He is survived by his wife: Norma June Thomas of Clay City; a son: Phillip W. Thomas of Estero, FL; a daughter: Cheryl J. (Gary) Piontkowski of Ft. Myers, FL; 3 grandsons: Skyler T. Peterson and Dexter S. Peterson of Ft. Myers, FL, and Dustin R. (Renee’) Peterson of Avoca, NY; 2 great-granddaughters: Madelyn and Arabella Peterson of Avoca, NY; 2 brothers: Robert “Red” Thomas of Cisne, and Karl (Margaret) Thomas of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Steven C. Thomas; and 2 brothers: Carroll and John Thomas.

    A graveside ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Clay City Cemetery with Brian Foster and Nate Whisler officiating.
