    Robert William Bokenkamp, 98, passed away after a brief illness at 4:28 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

    Born in Washington, Indiana on June 24, 1921 to Harry J. and Mary D. (Black) Bokenkamp, Robert is survived by his wife, Alice Katherine (Birner) Bokenkamp, whom he married on August 15, 1948, as well as by three of their four children, 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Robert was the eldest and last living of five brothers. Of blessed memory are: H. J. (Jack) Bokenkamp, Richard A. Bokenkamp, James W. Bokenkamp, and Donald G. Bokenkamp.

    The surviving children of Robert and Alice are Stephen R. Bokenkamp (Lisa Berkson) of Tempe, Arizona, Johanna B. Thies (David) of Champaign and Timothy K. Bokenkamp (Jo Ann) of Billingsley, Alabama, Mark Bokenkamp of Loudonville, Ohio died in 2016 of illness. He is survived by his spouse, Janet Marsano, and their twin daughters.

    Robert served honorably as Lieutenant J.G. for the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during the second world war. After the war, he earned degrees in Architectural Engineering and Education from Eastern Illinois University and the University of Illinois. After teaching Architectural and Engineering Drawing at Champaign High School (1946-1960), he worked at the University of Illinois where he rose to the rank of Assistant Dean of Engineering, a post he held from 1966 until his retirement in 1986.

    All of his adult life, Robert was a devout and active servant of the Lord in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He served as president of the St. John’s congregation and on various committees.

    Harry Jack Bokenkamp, born 08/04/1924 in Beckemeyer, IL, died 02/04/2015 in Venice, FL Harry served as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy and worked for PPG Industries and has lived in Salerno, Italy, Bridgeport, WV, Champaign, IL, Pittsburgh, PA, Tucson, AZ and Nokomis, FL. He enjoyed a good, long life and is survived by his wife of 66+ years, Marianne Boyd Bokenkamp, and his children, Gary & wife Bonnie of Landgrove, VT, John & wife Laura of St. Pete Beach, FL (and John's deceased beloved wife Kim Thompson Bokenkamp of Pittsburgh, PA) and Judy & husband Bob of Blacksburg, VA along with 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be on Tuesday, February 10, with a visitation starting at 10:00 am. With the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Venice, FL followed by refreshments at the church with a 2:30 pm Burial service at Sarasota National Cemetery with full honors for his service in the Navy. Arrangements handled by Ewing Funeral Home, Venice, FL

    Richard A. Bokenkamp, age 81, of Columbus, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 14, 2007. He was born January 28, 1926 in Washington, Indiana to the late Harry and Mary (Black) Bokenkamp. He was married for 52 years to his loving wife Joan (Levitt) Bokenkamp who preceded him in death October 5, 2004. He is survived and will be dearly missed by daughters and son-in-laws, Debra (Daniel) Bell, Sandra (Donald) Michelotti and Cathy (James) Sutherland; and grandchildren, Jacqueline, Allison and Cristin Sutherland, Erin and Drew Michelotti and Doug and Derek Bell; brothers and their wives, Robert (Alice), Harry J. (Marianne), Donald (Patty) and sister-in-law, Angie; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his dear brother James and sister-in-law Jean Lindsay. He attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated from Morris Harvey College. He was employed by Oilwell Division, United States Steel Corporation for over 35 years. He was a long time member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church and a former member of Worthington Hills Country Club. Veteran U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220. Reverend Paul Ulring officiating.
