Willard O. "Wig" Hasler, 91, of Noble, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005, at Burgin Manor in Olney.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with Reverend Bill Rennels officiating.
Burial will be in North Freedom Cemetery in rural Noble.
Mr. Hasler was born on November 28, 1913, in Noble, the son of Ira and Winnie (Schnautz) Hasler. He married Margaret Michels on May 4, 1935, in Vincennes, Ind. She survives.
He was a retired farmer. During his lifetime, he was involved in Democratic Party politics and active in community service. From 1954 to April 1959, he served on the West Richland Community Unit School District Board of Directors and was president of the board when the elementary school was constructed in 1955-1956. In 1956, he was in charge of Noble Community Youth League. In 1970, he was elected as Richland County Chairman of the Democratic Party. During the 1970s, he served as a commissioner on Richland County Housing Authority Board and was elected to two terms as its chair. During his tenure, the housing authority built housing units in Noble in 1972 and East Fork Apartments in Olney in 1979. He also served as chairman of National Farmers Organization and was a life member.
Mr. Hasler is survived by his wife, Margaret Hasler, of Noble; four daughters and three sons-in-laws, Karen Hasler, Jane Hasler Henick and her husband, Bertram, of Santa Monica, Calif., Retha Naret and her husband, Marcel, of Chandler, Ariz., and Linn Wells and her husband, Tom, of Olney; two grandsons, Paul Naret and his wife, Lynda, of Long Beach, Calif., and Shane Wells and his wife, Jodi, of Olney; one great-granddaughter, two step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walter and Leroy Hasler, and two sisters, Margaret Herdes and Gladys Hansen.
