    Notes:

    While attending his senior year of high school in 1944, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army (during World War II) and became part of the 232nd Field Artillery Battalion, 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division. He was sent to the European Theater of Operations and his division moved through France and Germany, to the Austrian Rhineland. He went on to a career with the Flora Post Office as a rural mail carrier. He was a longtime and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Flora where he and Gerry had been a part of the Win-A-Couple Sunday School Class in the past. Don was a member of Clay County Hospital Auxiliary, Flora American Legion Post #14, and Flora VFW Post #3999. He was a past member of Rural Letter Carriers, Flora Airport Authority, a Trustee for Harter Township Cemeteries, and had also served as a member of Flora ESDA for 35 years.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on February 8, 1944 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. After training as a field lineman (MOS 641), joined the 232nd Field Artillery Battalion, 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. Departed the Continental U.S. on January 6, 1945 and entered combat in vicinity of Lutzelstein, France on February 17, 1945. Fought in France, Germany and Austria through the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. After V-E Day, returned to the U.S. and stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Awarded The American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars, WWII Victory Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private 1st Class on April 25, 1946.

Assigned to and served with Company A, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, engaged in the occupation of Korea. Honorably discharged as a Private on May 31, 1947 at Camp Stoneman, California. Earned the WWII Victory Medal and The Army of Occupation Medal (Korea).
