Earned the Good CoConduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars, and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on December 8, 1945 at the Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.

    Notes:

    Ray Harbin, 77, of Clay City, IL died April 12, 2005, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

    Mr. Harbin was born November 11, 1927, in Wheatland, IN, the son of Mason and Edna Rusk Harbin. He married Jeanne VanDyke September 3, 1997 in Clay City.

    He was an operating engineer for J. W. Rudy Co. in Clay City and a member of Local #840 in Terre Haute, IN.

    He was a Navy veteran, a member of Sailor Springs American Legion, and was an avid mushroom and coon hunter.

    Survivors include his wife; a son, Rick; a daughter, Cathy Stout; five sisters, Betty Garbers, Catherine Cockerel, Martha Pearce, Mary Rosborough; and four step-children; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, twin children, Joyce Kay and Johnny Ray; infant son, Rodney Gay, and a brother, Johnny Harbin.

    Graveside services with military rites were held at the Clay City Cemetery.

    Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora was in charge.

    Entered active service on December 1, 1945. Completed boot camp at Naval Training Station, San Diego, California. Assigned to and served aboard, in turn, the heavy cruiser USS Salt Lake City CA-25 and the battleship USS Iowa BB-61. Honorably discharged as a Machinist's Mate Third Class on October 15, 1947 at Naval Air Station, Alameda, California. Earned the WWII Victory Medal for service during the period of eligibility.

    Rickey Jay Harbin, age 68, of Flora, Illinois, formerly of Maroa and Clay City, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Flora Gardens Care Center.

    He was born May 22, 1953, in Flora, Illinois, the son of Lewis Ray and Alice Josephine (Boyd) Harbin. He was united in marriage to Patricia “Patty” Ann Logue. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2021.

    Rickey loved pool, ping pong, and fast pitch softball. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Illinois Basketball, the New York Yankees, and Mickey Mantle.

    He is survived by his children: Philip (Brittney) Harbin of Clinton, Mickey (Sarah) Harbin of Urbana, and Ange (Danny) Harbin of Argenta; 12 grandchildren: Austin, Jordan, Jenna, Corey, Codey, Alexis, Colbey, Raylynn, Cobey, Corley, Covey, and Alexander; a great-granddaughter: Zay’La; a sister: Cathy (Philip) Stout of Clay City; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and one great-great-nephew.

    He was preceded in death by his parents: Ray and Jo Harbin; wife: Patty Harbin; twin brother: Rodney Harbin; other siblings: Johnny Ray and Joyce Kay; and a great-niece: Alexa Smith.

    A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted through the funeral home.
