Maurice was the son of William Leonard and Mary Ann Minard.

He married Clara Johnson in 1904 in Clay County, Illinois. Together they raised 10 children: Harold, Dessie, James, Thelma, William, Violet, Pansy, Dorothy, Doris & Maxine.

According to his death certificate he passed away on January 10th, 1968 in Knox, Indiana. It says he was buried on the 13th in Eagle Creek Cemetery. (I have been informed that sometimes Lerch Cemetery was called Eagle Creek)

The son of Mr. & Mrs. Morris Leonard, he had suffered injuries in August when he fell from a tree. He was eight years of age and leaves his father, mother, two sisters and two brothers.

Burial was in the Leonard Cemetery nearby.

Dessie Myers Anderson, 89, of 911 S. Fisher Street, Knox, Ind., passed away after an illness at 7:50 p.m. on Monday, May 25, at Starke Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Oct. 4, 1908, in Olney, Ill., and moved to the Knox area around 1927.
She married Ora Myers on June 14, 1927, in Knox, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1953. Then on July 28, 1962, in Knox, she married Clarence Andy Anderson, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1963.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Bennett, Dorothy Johnson and Doris Miejoday; and by three brothers, Sylvester, Jim and William Leonard.
She is survived by two sons, Donald "Bud" Myers and his wife, Ruby of Bourbonnais, Ill.; a son, Russell of Tucson, Ariz.; three stepsons, Francis "Bing" Anderson and Dewey Anderson, both of Knox and Bill of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; five grandchildren, Donald Myers of Mokena, Ill., Larry Myers of Herscher, Ill., Kathy Berndt and Dianne Binkley, both of Knox and Linda Kaylor of Tucson; four sisters, Violet Hasnerl and Maxine Bionkowski, both of Knox, Pansy Nuff and Betty Galloway, both of LaPorte, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Eagle Creek Church with burial to follow in the Eagle Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Braman and Son Memorial Chapel in Knox from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the church.

KNOX -- Services for Thelma M. Bennett, 81, of 25 N. Indiana 35, who died at 1:50 a.m. Monday in Starke Memorial Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Braman and Son Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Eagle Creek Church.
Mrs. Bennett was employed at the Knox License Bureau for years, Cook's Jewelry Store and Alan's Jewelry Store, and was the former owner of Farmer's Feed Store. She was born May 5, 1912, in Clay City, Ill. On June 16, 1930, in Plymouth, she married Chester "Chet" Bennett. He died Dec. 12, 1953. Surviving are four daughters, Barbara Gilliand of Dodge Center, Minn., Beverly Olson and Betty Osterreicher, both of Knox, and Bernice Koby of Cedar Lake, Ind.; two sons, Ben and Bruce, both of Knox; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Violet Hasnerl, Maxine Binkowski and Dessie Anderson, all of Knox, Pansy Nulf and Betty Galloway, both of LaPorte. A son, Bill, died in December 1964.

LA PORTE, IN. -- Betty Eileen Galloway, 90, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Miller's Health and Rehab in La Porte, IN. She was born April 14, 1930 in Knox, Indiana, the daughter of Maurice and Clara (Johnson) Leonard.

Betty was a member of the La Porte Missionary Church. She enjoyed gardening and she enjoyed her strawberry collectables. Her true passion in life was her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On June 23, 1946, in La Porte, IN, she married Marion Galloway who preceded in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Galloway of La Porte, IN; Two Sons, Marion L. (Judy) Galloway, Jr. of Lafayette, IN, John (Pat) Galloway of Hebron, IN; four Grandchildren, Todd Galloway of Louisville, KY, Scott (Josie) Galloway of Lafayette, IN, Kyle (Mallory) Galloway of Crown Point, IN, and Stephanie (Aaron) Miller of Hebron, IN; as well as 5 great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by 9 sisters and 2 brothers as well as her parents.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, September 18, 2020 starting at 12 Noon (CST) until the time of service. A life celebration will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Carl Galloway officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery.
