    Mr. Lee was a guard at the State Capital building. He died in his chair on the third floor of the Capitol building.

    Survived by his wife, Edith of Chatham; two daughters: Mrs. Ruby Stevens and Mrs. Violet Means, both of Chatham; two sons: Richard Lee of Phoenix, AZ and Vernon Lee of Chatham; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Herdes of Clay City; two brothers: Chester of Olney and James of Mattoon; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Notes:

    Chester Lee of 1101 E. Main St., Olney, passed away early this morning at the Richland Memorial Hospital.

    Mr. Lee was born January 22, 1889 in Clay County, a son of Richard and Belle (Blackledge) Lee.

    He was first married to Addie Pettijohn, who preceded him in death. He was later united in marriage with Ola Hossel, who survives him.

    He moved from Clay County to Olney, where he served four terms as Richland County Circuit Clerk, and headed the ticket in each election. In his first election he won by a 1600 vote majority, and he won his last election by a 2700 vote majority. Before being elected Circuit Clerk he served two years as Richland County Deputy Sheriff.

    He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Olney, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

    Surviving are his wife, Ola; two sons, Ronald of Worthington, Ind., and Robert of West Salem; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Claribel) Benson of Olney and Mrs. Homer (Louise) Bean of Findley, Ohio; a brother, Jimmy Lee of Mattoon; and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Herdes of Clay City. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

    Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Zirkle Mortuary. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

    Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

    Mrs. Herdes was born October 22, 1890 in Clay County, the daughter of Richard H. And Belle Blackledge Lee. She married James H. Herdes. She was a housewife and a member of the Clay City Methodist Church.

    Surviving are two sons, Virgil and Winfred; daughters, Iva Gaskin, Mildred Flannagan, and Melba Show; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and two sisters.

    Funeral services were held at Hosselton, Bookhout and Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City.

    Burial was in the Clay City Cemetery.

    Survivors include daughters Lora Marie Smith and Nola Lee Evans; a brother, Winfred Herdes; two sisters, Iva Gaskin and Mildred Flannigan; five grandchildren;; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, wife; sister, Melda, one grandson; and one infant brother.

    Funeral services were held at Summers-Kistler funeral Home with burial in the Clay City Cemetery.

He will miss her dearly.

    She will also be missed by her children, Rick Gill of Avon, IN, Steve (Hyong) Gill of Brighton, TN, Terri (Leon) Compton of Westville; her grandchildren, Nick Gill, Jim Gill, Mike Gill, Savannah Gill, Garrett Black, & Cassidy Spesard; her 10 great grandchildren; and her sister, Sondra Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Brenda Gill.

    Carolyn's family was her life and when her grandchildren came into her life, she cherished each of them. She was known to many as outgoing and everyone she met loved her. She will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to her Hospice Nurse, Cassie.

    A Graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Clay City Cemetery, Clay City, Illinois. Her family has entrusted her arrangements to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E. West St. Georgetown, Illinois 61846.
