He enjoyed most of his life in Crawford County, but also lived in Sailor Springs, IL, and Charleston, SC. Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Clay City High School, and went on to work many small jobs before starting work at Sears, where he was a salesman for twenty years. Following Sears, there was a year of fun selling Pioneer Labels and selling AmWay with Sam Bennett. He worked as a loan officer at the Oblong Branch and as a manager of the Robinson Branch of the First National Bank in Olney for a total of seventeen years.

Away from work, Dennis could often be found outdoors. Recently, he enjoyed spending time on his tractor "Run-run" and his ATV "Henry" and in his shed. Fishing was his passion, and he spent many a day in his Ranger boat on Newton Lake. He also enjoyed hunting through the years, especially quail hunting. He was a charter member of the Crawford County Bass Anglers and was also a member of the First Christian Church of Oblong since the early 80s. He has attended Highland Church of Christ in Robinson for the last few years.

One of his greatest accomplishments was being a wonderful Papaw to his four grandchildren. He will long be remembered for the love he gave to his family, friends, and especially to children. Love was truly Dennis’ strength and will continue to be his legacy.

Dennis married Crackel, Norma L. on 11 Jun 1971. Norma (daughter of Crackel, Harold Leon 'Toad' and Putnam, Kathern L. 'Putt') was born on 29 Jul 1952 in Flora, Clay County, Illinois; died on 1 Apr 2009 in Trident Medical Center, Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina; was buried in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, Clay County, Illinois.
