    Ronald and Stella lived east of Flora on the south side of old US 50. Ronald ran an Auto Salvage Yard, the building still exists. His death resulted from an accident while cutting a gas tank with a torch.

    Military Service:
    Enlisted and entered active service on May 6, 1943 at Great Lakes, Illinois. Trained and served as a Machinist's Mate (Refrigeration) Second Class in the Amphibious Force. First assignment was aboard the Attack Transport USS Wayne APA-54, on which he saw combat in the Marshall Islands, the South Pacific Island Hopping Campaigns and the invasions of Leyte, Luzon and Okinawa. Later served aboard the USS Little Rock CL-92. Eligible for The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with several bronze battle stars, The WWII Victory Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. Honorably discharged on July 16, 1947 at Great Lakes, Illinois.

    Mary West McKinnon Schnell, 78, of Flora, IL died at 8:45 AM Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Flora Rehab & Health Care Center in Flora.

    She was born November 18, 1931 in Flora, IL to Manford & Fern (Rumley) West. She married Edward E. Schnell on May 20, 1961 in Flora. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1983.

    She was employed at Flora International Shoe for 18 years, Roadmaster for 12 years, operated Pizza Palazzo, managed Thompson-Pettyjohn Self-Storage. Mary was a member of Flora Church of the Nazarene, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and she enjoyed quilting and crafts.

    She is survived by 3 sons: Michael E. McKinnon & wife Judy of Oakbrook, Larry L. McKinnon, and Danny L. McKinnon of Flora; 3 grandchildren: Tammy Rodgers, Tara (Donald) Willoby, Brock (Jena) McKinnon; 4 great-grandchildren: Taylor Lynn, Colton Lup, Brook Lynn, Wesley James; brothers & sisters: Sarah Jones of Flora, David (Judy) West of Highland, Norma Quandt of Belleville, Ada Baker of Tennessee, James "Red Top" West & wife Mary of Flora; step-sister: Linda Sue Toetz & husband Richard of Glendale, AZ; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews also survive.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers (Roy, Harvey, Ronnie & Robert West), and 1 sister (Betty Pearl).

    Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday (December 28, 2009) at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Alvord officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Sunday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Flora Church of the Nazarene.

    Sarah L. Jones, age 79, of Flora, IL died at 8:20 AM on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN.

    She was born December 21, 1932 in Clay County, IL to Menford and Fern (Rumley) West. She married Paul W. Jones on December 21, 1955 in Noble, IL. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2003.

    Sarah attended Western Union School, was a waitress at several local restaurants, served as Campground Host at Forbes State Park, helped with decorating for the F.A.F. Christmas Tree Walk, and was a lifelong member and former secretary of the Flora VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, camping, family get-togethers, traveling in the U.S. and abroad with her sister and sister-in-law, trapshooting at the gun club, and doing crafts, quilting and crocheting.

    She is survived by two daughters: Ruth Ann Weiler and Paula Jean Rahn; six grandchildren: Angie Noden, Amanda Wilson, Layton Weiler, J.D. Rahn, Brandy Little, Pamela Scott; five great-grandchildren: Elliot Noden, Noelle Wilson, Ronni Little, Sarah Little, David Little; two brothers: David West, James "Red Top" West; two sisters: Ada Baker, Norma Quandt; along with several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers (Roy, Harvey, Ronnie and Robert West), and two sisters (Mary Schnell and Betty Pearl).

    A memorial service for Sarah Jones was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Dr. Don Bunnell officiating.

    Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.

    The family requests that memorial donations in Sarah's memory be made to Golden Circle Nutrition or to the Kidney Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.

    Ada Marie West Baker, age 73, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Gateway Hospital in Clarksville, TN.

    Ada was born on March 13, 1940 in Clay County, IL to Menford and Fern (Rumley) West. She married Ben Baker on December 15, 1955 and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1964.

    Ada worked as a waitress for many years and was of the Protestant faith. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who loved her.

    Ada is survived by her three children: Diana Marie Jett (Alan), Troy Lee Baker (Traci), Maria Louise Bridges (David); two brothers: David West (Judy) and James "Red Top" West (Mary); one sister: Norma Quandt; seven grandchildren: Cheryl Humphrey, Timothy Lee Judy, Shannon Alley, Scott Jett, Ian Baker, Benji Castleberry, Ethan Castleberry; a step-grandchild: Jonathan Bridges; and a number of great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers (Roy, Harvey, Ronnie and Robert West), three sisters (Mary Schnell, Betty Pearl and Sarah Jones), and a granddaughter (Crystal Judy).

    A graveside service for Ada Baker at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora, IL will be announced at a later date.
