    Emory E. Thomas, 88, Flora, died at 9:58 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at Flora Pavilion Nursing Home Center.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Rev. Neal Kenley officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Xenia. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

    Memorials can be made to the donor's choice.

    Thomas was born Mar. 15, 1909, in Clay County, the son of Adelbert and Leona (Neece) Thomas. He married Elizabeth Muriel Thompson in 1933 in Wayne County. She preceded him in death in 1974. He then married Gennelle Bissey Davis in 1975, in Paducah, Ky. She preceded him in death in 1993.

    He was a farmer and affiliated with the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and Clay County H.I.A. Board of Directors. He played music at Bible Grove Opry, Xenia Opry and Sailor Springs Opry, taught a Sunday School class at a Methodist Church in Xenia and Elm Street Christian Church in Olney for a number of years, and served as road commissioner in Songer Township for 18 years.

    He is survived by one son, Don Thomas and his wife, Rena, of Flora; three sisters, Ruth Henderson, of Clay City, Elbert Farmer and his wife, Lucille, of Cisne, and Beulah Smith, of Clay City; one brother, Rev. Merle Thomas, of Paducah, Ky.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, second wife, a son, a granddaughter, a brother and a sister.

    Carl E. Thomas, 63, of Clay City, died last evening at Richland Memorial Hospital.

    He was born in Flora June 3, 1911. On Sept. 3, 1932 he married Lillian Barnes in Louisville.

    Surviving are his wife, Lillian; mother, Mrs. Leona Thomas of Olney; two brothers, Emory Thomas of Xenia and Rev. Merle Thomas of Dyer, Tenn.; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Henderson, Mrs. Violet Gill, Mrs. Beulah Smith, all of Clay City, and Mrs. Lucille Farmer of Cisne; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

    He was a retired Clay City Postmaster, and a member of the Clay City Methodist Church.

    Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Cardascio-Easley Funeral Home, with Rev. S. L. Milner officiating. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery. Friends, may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

    LUCILLE E. FARMER, 93 of Cisne, IL, passed away at 10:55AM Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Flora Rehab & Healthcare Center at Flora, IL.

    Lucille was born February 9, 1916 in Clay City, IL to Delbert and Leona Belle (Neece) Thomas. She married Elbert Farmer October 3, 1932 at Fairfield, IL. He preceded her in death August 9, 2000.

    Lucille was a homemaker and a member of the Enterprise United Methodist Church where she was the treasurer, taught the Adult Sunday School Class and was custodian for the church for many years; and past President of Cisne Senior Citizens.

    She is survived by three daughters – Ann Stoecklin (& her husband Don) of Flora, IL; Jane Reynolds, Stonefort, IL; and Janet Taylor (& her husband Larry) of Clay City, IL; one son Carroll Farmer (& his wife Karen) of Whitefield, Maine; one sister Beulah Smith of Clay City, IL and one brother Merle Thomas (& his wife Norma Jean) of Paducah, KY. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

    Preceding her in death were her husband, one infant daughter, one grandson, two brothers, two sisters, two sons-in law and her parents.

    Funeral services for Lucille Farmer will be 11:00AM Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Hosselton Funeral Home, Cisne, IL. Burial will be at Cisne Cemetery.

    Beulah Marie (Thomas) Smith, age 94, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.

    Mrs. Smith was born May 18, 1921 in Clay County, the daughter of Delbert and Leona Belle (Neece) Thomas. She married John H. Smith on August 24, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1997.

    She began working at Sparton Manufacturing Company in Flora in 1960 and later retired from there in 1982. She was a 70 year member of Clay City United Methodist Church, joining on May 6, 1945. She was also a 60 year member of Eastern Star. Her hobbies and favorite past times included birds, flowers, reading, writing poetry, singing, and gardening.

    She is survived by one brother: Merle Douglas Thomas (Norma Jean). Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Phillip D. Henderson (Charlene); Dorothy Henderson; Bonnie Christy (Floyd); Barbara Kirby (Ray); Doris Murphy; Marilyn Prince (Tom); Don Thomas (Rena); Linda Tolliver (Bill); Norma Gordon (John); Carroll Dean Farmer (Karen); Ann Stoecklin (Don); Jane Reynolds; Janet Taylor (Larry); Michael A. Thomas (Lynne); Gary W. Thomas (Ginger); Rodney D. Thomas (Kim); Sandra Sebastian (Barry); along with several great nieces and great nephews.

    Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, two brothers: Emory and Carl Thomas, and three sisters: Violet Gill, Lucille Farmer, and Thelma Ruth Henderson.

    A funeral service for Beulah Smith will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with burial following in Clay City Cemetery.

    Memorial donations may be given to the Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center Activity Fund.

    Beulah married Smith, John Henry Jr. on 24 Aug 1947.     Rev. Merle Thomas, age 95, of Georgetown, KY passed away at Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY on Monday, July 12, 2021.

    He was born to his parents on April 1, 1926 Delbert and Leona Thomas. Brother Merle was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Paducah, Ky. He started his ministry of pastoring in 1950, retired in 1991 and his last sermon was preached in 2010. He pastored several churches in the Memphis Conference of The United Methodist Church; Owenton UMC, East Dyersburg UMC, Aldersgate UMC, Northside UMC, Kevil and New Liberty UMC, Dyer UMC, Nebo UMC, Hickman and West Hickman UMC, Lebanon UMC, St. Luke Aldersgate UMC, Massac UMC, Bandana and Oscar United Methodist Churches and Christ UMC. Merle loved to play the banjo and dulcimer. While he enjoyed playing these instruments, he also built eight banjos and 30 dulcimers.

    He is survived by his wife Norma Gene Thomas of 72 years; three sons Mike Thomas (Lynne) of West Paducah,KY, Gary Thomas (Ginger) of Lovelaceville,KY, and Rodney Thomas (Kim) of Burlington, KY; one daughter Sandra Sebastian ( Barry) of Sadieville, KY fifteen Grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.

    Merle was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah Swafford, four sisters, Beulah Smith, Lucille Farmer, Ruth Henderson, and Violet Gill; two brothers Carl Thomas and Emory Thomas and his parents Delbert and Leona Thomas.

    Thursday, July 15, 2021, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at Concord United Methodist Church in Paducah, Ky.

    Funeral Services:
    Thursday, July 15, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church; officiants: Rev. John Smithmier, Rev. Joel Jackson and Rev. Dean Emerson

    Interment: McKendree United Methodist Cemetery with Navy Military Honors.

    Military Service:
    Enlisted and entered active service on June 9, 1944. Completed boot camp at Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Illinois. Stationed, in turn, at Advanced Base Assembly and Training Unit, Lido Beach, Long Island, New York; and Naval Supply Depott, Naval Advanced Base, Navy 131 (Noumea, New Caledonia). Honorably discharged as a Coxswain on March 3, 1946 at the Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. Earned the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
