    He retired as a Sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1968 with over 25 years of service. He served in World War II and the Korean War earning three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and numerous other medals and citations. Later in his career he was an ROTC Instructor and rifle team coach at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and the University of Colorado at Boulder. Following his retirement, he attended Vincennes University studying accounting and bookkeeping, and later worked in several area businesses. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
