Assigned to and served with Battery B, 434th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 7th 'Lucky Seventh' Armored Division upon their arrival and fought with them through the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned The Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 silver battle star and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Technician 5th Grade on October 24, 1945 at The Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

    She was formerly employed at Rinard Grade School, AMF in Olney, International Shoe in Flora, and Four Sisters in Flora and most recently provided in home care. She was a member of Bloom Bapist Church and was a past member of Rinard Home Extension. Cloe enjoyed flowers, flower gardens, quilting and sewing. She made a famous lemon pie that everyone enjoyed but never gave out the recipe.

    Lloyd Allen

    WHITE HEATH — Lloyd A. Allen, 71, of White Heath died at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 6, 1994) at the Americana Nursing Home in Urbana.

    A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Christian Home Cemetery in Louisville. A memorial service was Friday evening at the Sangamon Valley Christian Church in Mahomet. Shrader Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    He was born Aug. 1, 1923, in Louisville, the son of Hairm and Itha Fitzgerald Allen. He married Pauline Greenwood; she survives.

    Also surviving are four sons, George and James Allen of White Heath, Lloyd Allen of Dewey and Arnold Allen of Champaign; a stepson, Charles Emberton of Atwood; a stepdaughter, Jessie Wilman of Mattoon; three brothers, Ianthus and Lavan Allen of Louisville and Robert Allen of Iola; five sisters, Clayora Dawkins, Delorus Greenwood and Dantzell Foster, all of Flora, Cloetilla Rogers of Rinard and Roberta Allen of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers.

    Mr. Allen was an electrical contractor and a WWII veteran.

    Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on July 21, 1944 at Chicago, Illinois. Completed basic training and qualified in the Military Occupational Specialty of Rifleman, 745. Departed the U.S. on New Year' Day 1945 bound for The European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with Company L, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd 'Second to None' Infantry Division Through the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars and The WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Sergeant on March 24, 1946 at The Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
