    Obituary from Wayne County Press, 8/13/1970:

    May Manring of Orchardville died at 3 a.m. Thursday at St. Clemens Hospital in Red Bud, at the age of 64.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New church at Orchardville, with the Rev. Berlin Scarborough officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    The body will lie in state at the Richardson Funeral Chapel in Wayne City, where friends may call after 4 p.m. today.

    Mrs. Manring is the daughter of David Nelson and Mary (Coehler) Sons. She married Linza Manring, who survives.

    Other survivors include four sons . . . ; a step son . . . ; two daughters, . . . ; a brother, Byrl Sims of Flora; a sister, Inez Manring; 22 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

    Notes:

    Lowell B. Sons, age 84, of Salem, Illinois, formerly of Flora, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem, with family and his wife of 60 years by his side.

    Lowell was born July 17, 1931 in Cisne, the son of Beryl Wayne and Lela (Howe) Sons. He married Barbara Cook on June 11, 1955, in Flora.

    Lowell served in the U.S. Army and was a cook at Fort Lewis, Washington, and later served in the Reserves for 8 years. His working experience included driving trucks for Flora Pure Milk Company for 5 years, shoe factory, Vaughn Furniture, Petrolane, and was a guard at Jenmar. Lowell really enjoyed listening to music at the Flora HUB, and traveling to other music spots in the area.

    He is survived by his wife: Barbara Sons of Salem; four children: Jeffrey Sons (Paula) of Salem, Gary Sons (Cindy) of Woodbridge, VA, Carol Pruitt (Ron) of Kell, and Walter Sons (companion Teresa) of Cisne; twelve grandchildren: Amy Hawkins (Randy), Crystal Sons, Angela Smith (Matt), Nicci Sons, Stephanie Sons, Samantha Sons, Christopher Sons, Jeannie Sons, Amy Pruitt, Ronnie Pruitt Jr., Caleb Pruitt, and Jarod Sons; six great-grandchildren; and a sister: Donna Kay Taylor (Rick) of Edinburg, IN.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Betty Caldwell, a brother: Galen Sons, and a sister: Patty Ann Thomas.

    A funeral service for Lowell Sons will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with visitation from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented prior to the funeral service.

    The family has requested that memorial donations be given to a group that assists Veterans, such as D.A.V. or Wounded Warriors.

    Mr. Sons was an area Sears Service Technician and past owner/operator of the Sears Catalog Store in Flora.

    He was a member of the Oak Street Baptist Church, Flora Masonic Lodge #204, Belleville Consistory, Ainad Temple, Clay County Shrine club, Flora Police Commissioner, past Flora Civil Defense Member, Flora American Legion Post #14 and a U. S. Army - Vietnam Veteran.

    Survivors include his wife; two sons, Doug Sons and Rob Hunt; three daughters, Gayla Tanner, Marie Headlee, and Becky Payne; a brother, Lowell B. Sons; three sisters, Betty Coldwell, Donna Kay Taylor, and Patty Ann Thomas; and 16 grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Funeral services were held at Frank and Bright Funeral Home with burial in the Elmwood Cemetery with Military Honors.

    She was born December 24, 1947 in Flora, IL to Beryl & Lela (Howe) Sons. She married Sherman L. Thomas on August 3, 1967 in Clay City, IL.

    She was a homemaker and her memberships included the following: member of Zif Baptist Church in Clay City, member and chaplain of Flora VFW Ladies Auxiliary, member and past president of Clay City VFW Auxiliary, a Red Cross volunteer, and a DAV volunteer.

    Patty enjoyed being outdoors, sewing, reading, outdoor activities, resale shopping and family get togethers.

    She is survived by her husband: Sherman Thomas; children: Danita Henderson & husband Steve, Greg Thomas & wife Susan, Daniel Thomas & wife Kim; sister: Donna Taylor & husband Richard; brother: Lowell Sons & wife Barbara; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother (Galen Sons), and a sister (Betty Caldwell).

    Funeral services were held at Zif Baptist Church and burial followed in Zif Cemetery, Clay City.
