    Former Wayne Resident Dies

    Former Wayne County resident, Lowell R. Bratton, 66, of Louisville, died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 1984, at his home.

    Mr. Bratton was the brother of Stanley Bratton, of Cisne.

    Rites Conducted

    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Neal Funeral Home, with burial in Red Brush Cemetery with full military rites.

    Mr. Bratton was born in Wayne County Sept. 17, 1918, the son of Water [sic] and Iona (Fowler)[sic] Bratton.

    He was married to the former Freda Fowler in 1940.

    He was a retired meat cutter.

    Mr. Bratton was a member of Louisville Pentecostal Church.

    Surviving are his wife Freda Bratton, of Louisville; one son, Rick Bratton ; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley VanDyke of Flora; three brothers, Stanley Bratton, of Cisne; . . . ; three grandchildren; and two foster grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers, one half-brother, three sisters and his parents.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on June 14, 1944 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Selected for The Quartermaster Corps, completed basic training, graduated The Army Air Forces' Radio Mechanic School at Truax Field, Wisconsin, and eventually qualified as a Warehouse Foreman (Military Occupational Specialty 252). Departed the U.S. on January 4, 1945 bound for The African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. Re-deployed on July 18, 1945 to The Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations, arriving in the Philippine Islands after war's end. Served with the 56th Quartermaster Sales Company. Earned The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and The Philippine Liberation Medal. Honorably Discharged as A Sergeant On May 15, 1946 at The Separation Center, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

    Notes:

    Ricky L. Bratton, 53, of Louisville died at 1:18 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Burial will be in Red Brush Cemetery, Louisville, at a later date.

    The family of Ricky L. Bratton is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

    Ricky was born Dec. 5, 1954, in Flora, the son of Lowell and Freda Fowler Bratton. He married Susanne Pilman Sept. 21, 1975, in Louisville.

    Ricky was a 1973 graduate of North Clay High School, Louisville, and Lincoln Trail College, Lawrenceville. He was employed as a lead systems analyst for Discover Financial Services in Riverwoods and prior to that, worked for Illinois Student Scholarship Commission in Deerfield. He was an intelligent, fun-loving man. He was a great husband, who always looked out for his wife, family and friends. He enjoyed cooking and watching war movies and loved his dogs.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Shirley VanDyke.
