    Services will be at 11 o'clock Monday at the church; burial in Mount Olivet cemetery. The rosary will be said at 8 o'clock Sunday night at the Blackman Guardian chapel, where friend may call after 1 o'clock Sunday.

    Military Service:
    Trained stateside and assigned to the 47th Armored Infantry Battalion, 5th Armored 'Victory' Division. Arrived in Liverpool, England on 24 February, 1944 and based near Swindon where the unit was first assigned to (General Patton's) 3rd Army. Entered the Continent via Utah Beach and began combat operations on 2 August, 1944 in the Normandy Campaign. Private Rapp was killed in action by sniper fire on Saturday, 12 August, 1944 in the vicinity of Sees while his unit was attempting to close the Argetan - Falaise Gap. He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal posthumously and otherwise earned The American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, and the WW II Victory Medal. Buried with military honors at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France. Honored also at the Elmwood WW II Memorial in his hometown.

    Notes:

    Marcella D (Rapp) Shinn, 86, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on July 9, 2010. Marcella was born on January 3, 1924, in Webb City, Missouri, to Daniel and Alice Rapp. She grew up and graduated high school in Flora, Illinois. Kansas City was where she lived most of her life and worked and raised her two children, Terry W. Shinn and A. Danielle Shinn.

    She worked as a single mother and always had a great work ethic in her administrative and accounting roles. Marcella also acted as the Secretary/Treasurer for many organizations throughout her years. She retired from Wagner Industries in 1991. During her retirement she traveled and proudly volunteered at the Harry S. Truman Library.

    Marcella was preceded in death by her son, Terry; her parents, and three brothers: Chester, Burl, and William Rapp.

    She is survived by her daughter, Danielle S. Shepard and husband, Larry, formerly of Independence, MO; her four grandchildren: C. Patrick Shinn of Desoto, KS; Michelle Smith Dixon of Overland Park, KS; Natalie Smith Pasquarette, and Craig M. Smith of Independence, MO; four great-grandchildren: Lucia Shinn, Lindsey Moritz, Caroline Miller, and Alison Pasquarette, and two brothers, Maurice Rapp of Charlotte, NC, and Paul Rapp of Longview, TX.

    Bill Rapp, 84, of Flora, IL died at 10 AM Friday, September 11, 2009 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

    He was born June 27, 1925 in Webb City, MO to Daniel & Alice (Keeling) Rapp. He married Beulah Goad on December 21, 1946 in Morganfield, KY.

    Bill was a licensed plumber, enjoyed playing golf, and was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart Recepient serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. His memberships include the following: First Baptist Church of Flora, Flora Masonic Lodge #204, Belleville Constistory, Ainad Temple, Clay County Shrine Club, Flora Elks Lodge, life member & Past Commander of Flora VFW Post #3999, Flora American Legion Post #14, and Plumbers Local 149 of Champaign, IL.

    He is survived by his wife: Beulah Rapp of Flora; daughter: Judy Beard of Flora; 2 grandchildren: Randy Beard & wife Shirley of Flora and Staci Houston & husband Jimmy of Flora; 4 great-grandchildren: Cody Houston, Taylor Harmon, Miayah Houston, Ethan Houston; 1 sister: Marcella Shinn of Kerney, MO; 2 brothers: Morris Rapp & wife Paula of Charlotte, NC and Paul Rapp & wife Barbara of Texas; several nieces and nephews also survive.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, son (Daniel), and 2 brothers (Burl & Chester Rapp). Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Keele officiating.

    Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Xenia, with military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Masonic Rites. Memorials are suggested to Clay County Home Health or St. Louis Shriner's Hospital.

    William married Goad, Buelah G. on 21 Dec 1946 in Morganfield, Union County, Kentucky. Buelah was born on 3 Oct 1923 in Clay County, Illinois; died on 20 Jun 2017 in Flora, Clay County, Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
