Howard loved playing music and singing, and when he was able, he enjoyed going to "shindigs". In his younger days, Howard used to race cars at the White Squirrel Speedway, where he was known as the "Roll-Over King". Howard was always working on cars when he was younger. He loved his cat, Miss Kitty, very much, and watched a lot of Westerns. Howard will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Imogene Marie Wyman, age 89, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away early Friday morning, February 25, 2022, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

She was born April 23, 1932, in Xenia, the daughter of Everett and Helen (Akes) Carrell.

Imogene was an avid gardener, spending countless hours canning and making the food that her family would eat throughout the winter. She was especially fond of making and eating canned sweet pickles. She was a member of the Xenia United Methodist Church where she belonged to the ladies sewing group. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, having always made all of her children’s clothing and numerous quilts that she had gifted over the years. She enjoyed working puzzles, crossword puzzles, and word searches. Imogene enjoyed going to community events and listening to music, playing her Baldwin organ, and playing card and board games with her grandkids. She was always the go-to babysitter and cherished memories made while spending time with her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by her children: Joyce (Pat) O’Donnell of Xenia, Peggy (Randy) Borcherding of Xenia, Jo Ella (D.J.) Delak of Leighton, Alabama; 6 grandchildren: Angela (Frank) Edwards of Xenia, Lee (Brooke) O’Donnell of Flora, Jason (Erin) Borcherding of Flora, Gina (Cory) Heuerman of Flora, Scott (Shannon) Fatheree of Xenia, Jeannie Fatheree of Alabama; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Bill, Jack, Don, and Charlie Carrell, and Ruth Phillips.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 12 noon on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Dave Merrihew officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Xenia. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 noon on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Cancer Crusaders and will be accepted through the funeral home. Everyone who knew John has memories of his terrific sense of humor and good times spent visiting and laughing with him. He was a 1970 graduate of Flora High School, and had worked at Holland Truck Stop, on a horse farm in Florida, as well as Clay County Industries and Wal-Mart. For years he and family would go to a campsite on Trago Lake that he put a cabin on, and where he liked to fish and relax in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and taking care of his dogs over the years, and would cultivate a garden every summer with the hopes of a flourishing crop of vegetables, especially big tomatoes and peppers. John spent a lot of time in his workshop crafting woodworking ideas into reality and was often able to see the possibilities to turn a discarded object into a neat creation. Music was an important part of John’s life since childhood, and he played a variety of instruments including guitar and bass guitar, harmonica, mandolin, keyboard, and even dusted off an old accordion once and a while. He was a founding member and first Commander of the Flora Sons of the American Legion, and he and Tammy have been part of “Santa’s Smiles” in Clay county to help many kids and families have a brighter Christmas. John had a soft heart for pets, and he and Tammy opened their home to the Clay County Animal & Rescue foster program for dogs. An avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, he also loved watching football. He had been a past member of the Eagles, Moose, and Odd Fellows.
