    With 4 years, 6 months and 17 days prior service in the Navy, entered active service as a draftee on November 6, 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Selected for the Medical Department and trained in the Military Occupational Specialty of Dental Laboratory Technician (067). Assigned to and served with The Medical Department Detachment at Fitzsimmons General Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on May 15, 1945 at that station. Earned The American Campaign Medal and The WWII Victory Medal.

    Notes:

    Doris P. Burgess, age 93, of Waverly, Kentucky passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Red Banks Nursing Home in Henderson, KY.

    Doris was born October 17, 1921 to Bart and Eva (Parrish) Goff Bennett.

    She married Ancil Lewis Burgess on May 1, 1983 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2009.

    She always enjoyed seeing family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and reading the Bible.

    Doris is survived by her son: Danny Daugherty and wife Linda of Uniontown, KY; a brother: Wesley Bennett and wife Wanda of Henderson, KY; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father: Delbert Goff, three sisters: Opal, Ima, and Helen, and a brother: Nolen.

    A funeral service for Doris Burgess will be at 1 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, IL with visitation from 12 p.m. (Noon) until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

    Interment will be in Bunker Cemetery, Rinard.

    Family/Spouse: Daugherty, Jason Lee 'Poke'. Jason (son of Daugherty, Frank and Barnes, Flossie) was born on 14 Mar 1917; died on 23 Feb 1992 in Louisville, Clay County, Illinois; was buried in Red Brush Cemetery, Louisville, Clay County, Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
