    INGRAHAM — Betty Louise Brooks, 84, of Ingraham passed away at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at home.

    Betty was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Clay County, the daughter of William Raymond Pugh and Linda Katherine (Grove) Pugh. She married Jasper O. Brooks in 1945 in Arkansas. He died in 1986.

    She was a homemaker. She was affiliated with Southern Baptist Church in Ingraham.

    She is survived by her sons, James Brooks, Tom (Gina) Brooks and Randy Brooks; daughters, Eva (Ron) Hostettler, Linda (Kenny) Kessler and Pat (Jim) Gothard; daughter-in-law, Kathy Brooks; brother, William Neil Pugh; fifteen grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 17 great-stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ray Dean Brooks; daughter, Donna Jean Brooks in infancy; brother, Dale Pugh; sister, Shirley Brooks; and three great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held at Neal Funeral Home, Louisville.

    Burial was in Ingraham Cemetery.

    Memorials may be made to Clay County Hospice.

    Notes:

    Ray Dean Brooks, 58, of Ingraham, IL died at 10:55 PM Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Clay County Hospital in Flora, IL. following a motorcycle/automobile accident.

    He was born on July 29, 1952 in Chicago, IL to Jasper Osmond "Pat" Brooks and Betty (Pugh) Brooks. He married Kathy Denning on April 17, 1976 in Flora, IL at the home of Kathy's mother, Nina Denning.

    He was the owner/operator of "Ray's" Dent Repair and a member of the Ingraham Baptist Church.

    Ray rode with the Illinois Patriot Guard and participated with the Blessing of the Bikes Sheriff's Posse. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, taking care of his friends and family, and spending time and playing with his grandkids.

    He was a loving husband, father, Papaw, son, brother and uncle.

    He is survived by his mother: Betty Brooks; wife: Kathy Brooks; 2 sons: Jesse and Christopher Brooks; 3 grandchildren: Landon, Connor and Aiden; 3 sisters: Eva Hostettler, Linda Kessler, and Patsy Gothard; 3 brothers: James, Tom, and Randy Brooks; brother-in-law: David Denning; and a host of nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his father and sister (Donna Jean Brooks).

    Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

    Following services, in accordance with Ray's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with private interment.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Patriot Guard or Disabled Veterans of America.

    Tommy Gene Brooks, age 66, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Saturday evening, October 14, 2023, at his home surrounded by all the people he loved.

    He was born December 20, 1956, in Effingham, the son of Pat and Betty (Pugh) Brooks. He was united in marriage to Regina Thompson on May 1, 1979, in Clay City, and together they have shared 44 wedding anniversaries.

    Tom had worked at the sawmill and in the oil fields in his early career and later worked as a Foreman for Engineered Fluid. He and Gina enjoyed attending classic rock-n-roll concerts, auctions, and motorcycle rallies, riding motorcycles, and driving the circle to look for deer. Tom loved sports on all levels and enjoyed watching his grandkids sporting events. He was a fan of all Chicago teams, excluding the White Sox, and was especially fond of “Da Bears.”

    He is survived by his wife: Gina Brooks of Clay City; 3 daughters: Sierra (Chris) Young of Flora, Athena (Tom) Gordon of Xenia, and Mackenzie Stone of Carlyle; grandchildren: Hayden, Keegan, and Zander Young, Ethan Gossett, Logan Smith, Trevin (Tiffanae) Smith, Annie Gordon, Keigan Samples, Brooksy, Bailey, and Briar Bray, and Macey Brooks; great-grandchildren: Lyric Bray, Carter Allen, Sophia and Emmett Rainey, Bristol, Onyx, and Sapphire Rose, Layton Smith, and another to arrive in the coming year; siblings: Eva Hostettler of Ingraham, Patsy Gothard of Champaign, Lee Kessler of Vandalia, Randy Brooks of Olney, and Jim Brooks of Olney; a sister-in-law: Kathy Brooks of Ingraham; adopted family: Sonny Dale Carpenter of Clay City, Donna Jo Carpenter of Clay City, and Debra (Mark) Phillips of Louisville; a special cousin “Little” Bill Pugh; a host of nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Sky.

    He was preceded in death by his parents: Betty and Pat Brooks; a brother: Ray Brooks; a sister: Donna Jean Brooks; son-in-law: Matt Stone; nephew: Bryon Williams; mother and father-in-law: Marge and R.L. Thompson; adopted parents: Gene and Shirley Carpenter; and a sister-in-law: Connie Brooks-Young.

    A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.
