(Mary Ann Brand Powell)

Mary Ann, daughter of Sandy and Mary Ann Brand, was born in county of Fife, Scotland, June 4th, 1862. She came to America with her parents at the age of 6 and located on a farm near Jeffersonville. Here she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage with Tobias B. Powell April 3rd, 1883. Seven children were born to this union, two little sons having died in early childhood. A daughter, Florence, died in 1908 and another daughter, Mrs. Fronia Bowles, preceded her in death in 1913.

The companion passed away August 21st, 1946. Many years ago she confessed her faith n Christ and united with the Cisne Christian church, where she retained her membership throughout her life.

After several months illness she entered peacefully into rest at the home of her son, Johnnie, near Fairfield, early Saturday morning, March 22nd, 1947, age 84 years, 9 months and 18 days. She is survived by two sons, Charlie of Pekin and Johnnie of Fairfield; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Haney of Evansvlle, Ind., 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and lone sister, Mrs. Sophronia Johnson of Fairfield.

Funeral services were conducted from the Cisne Christian church March 24th by Elder W.D. Crippin. Interment was in the Cisne cemetery.

Notes:

Carl E. Powell served his country in WW II in Northern France. After an honorable discharge he served in the Reserves for two years. He received Service Stripes, 4 Overseas Service Bars, American Campaign Medal, European Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with a Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and a Certificate of Service from the State of Illinois. Carl had a lifetime membership with American Legion Post 375 in San Antonio. He also was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters with American Local 0014. He was preceded in death by his first wife Etta.

Notes:

Charles F. Powell, 82, formerly of Pekin and Mackinaw, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Sharon Elms Health Care in Peoria.

Born Feb. 20, 1919, in Minier to Charles T. and Bessie Beckel Powell, he married Virginia C. Neuhaus on Feb. 20, 1948, in Pekin. She died Jan. 2, 1999.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Surviving are one son, Steve of Mackinaw; and three brothers, Robert and Harold, both of Pekin, and Carl of San Antonio, Texas.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He worked as a yard laborer at Caterpillar Inc. for eight years, retiring in 1983. Prior to that, he worked in the malt department at Standard Brands for 22 years.

Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.

Joyce (daughter of Hickenbottom, Allen Wesley and Hamilton, Alice) was born on 14 May 1930 in Cisne, Wayne County, Illinois; died on 11 May 2019 in Flora Gardens Care Center, Flora, Clay County, Illinois; was buried in Gunion Cemetery, Cisne, Wayne County, Illinois. Notes:

Vernon G. Powell, 73, of 316 S. Fourth St. died at 10:52 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Beechwood Health Care Center.

Born April 30, 1925, in Mackinaw to Charles and Bessie Beckel Powell, he married Bonnie Bonham on Dec. 24, 1948 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Alice Skaggs of South Pekin and Linda Jobe of Marquette Heights; two sons, Vernon Powell Jr. of Cahokia and Jack Gordon of Elsberry, Missouri; four brothers, Robert and Harold, both of Pekin, Charles of Peoria and Carl of San Antonio and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, one granddaughter, one sister, one brother, and one son, Ronnie Powell in 1984.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a truckdriver for Hall Transport for many years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Eagles Aerie Lodge 1869.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, San Jose.

Notes:

Robert “Bob” F. Powell, 92, of Pekin, passed away at 11:18 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Pekin Manor.

Born June 18, 1927 in Mackinaw to Charles and Bessie (Beckel) Powell, he married Dawn Carol Zannacker on May 1, 1952 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Taylor and Susan K. Rasmussen, both of Pekin; two sons, Robert David (Becky) Powell and Mark Alan Powell, both of Pekin and five grandchildren, Carrie (John) Morrissey of Springfield, Michael (Lindsey) Rasmussen of Manito, Bethany (Scott) Fuller, Stacey (Brad) Simoncini and Rachel Richardson, all of Pekin; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; one sister and three infant siblings.

A member of Laborers Local 231 in Pekin for more than 50 years, Bob worked for R.A. Cullinan in Tremont, for Robert Monge building houses and last with the Illinois Department of Transportation.

He was a devoted volunteer fire fighter and founding member of the Schaeferville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for more than 25 years. Anybody that knew Bob, knew he was a builder and he even helped build the firehouse. He would always drop what he was doing and help anyone in need.

Bob loved camping, traveling and was a self-taught jack of all trades.

His memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Mark Foglio will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow the service in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
