    Notes:

    Oscar Halden Bryant was born August 14th 1910 in a log cabin in Clay County, ILL. He was the first child to Ray and O'dessie May(Kistner)Bryant. The cabin was later taken down and moved to a place west of Noble and rebuilt.

    He was married to Helen Elizabeth Meade daughter of Thomas Telesphorus Meade and Catherine (Burns)in San Diego, California on July 10th 1943. They were parents of seven children--four sons and three daughters.
    Oscar served in the Navy during World War II. He was attached to the San Diego Armory and was a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class. When he returned to Iowa he settled back into the Cosgrove, Iowa area and farmed.

    He died in Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa on October 13, 1972 and was buried in St. Perer's Cemetery in Cosgrove, Johnson County, Iowa. He is survived by his wife Helen, seven children, Barbara (Clarence) Stennes, William (Sharon)Bryant, Robert (Barb)Bryant, Mary Lou (Dave) Turney, Gary (Sherry)Bryant, Elizabeth Bryant,Edward Bryant and four grandchildren Tamara and Chad Bryant, Brenda and Cynthia Turney.

    Leona Grace Slagley, 91, formerly of Louisville, died February 24, 2005, in Edwardsville, IL.

    Mrs. Slagley was born July 29, 1913, the daughter of Ray and O'Dessia Kistner Bryant. She married Lowell Slagley December 31, 1937 and he preceded her in death in December, 1981.

    She was a homemaker, a member of Louisville United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Rebekah Lodge.

    Survivors include a daughter, Mary Nall; three brothers, Dean, Jean, and Ray Bryant; two grandchildren; and two grandchildren.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, infant daughter, Wanda Eileen; daughter, Shirley Peavler; a brother, Oscar Bryant; and a sister, Dorothea McHenry.

    Funeral services were held at Neal Funeral Home with burial in Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville.

    Dorothea A. McHenry, 89, of Flora, IL died January 12, 2005 at Flora HealthCare Center.

    Mrs. McHenry was born February 12, 1915, in Richland County, the daughter of Ray and Dessie Kistner Bryant. She married Ray W. McHenry on June 20, 1937. He preceded her in death.

    She was a retired assembly worker for General Manatic and Holly Carb., a member of Louisville United Methodist Church.

    Survivors include a son, William McHenry; two daughters Sharon Leach and Karen Hollingsworth; two grothers, Gene Henry Bryant and Dean W. Bryant; a sister, Leona Slagley; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son, Jerry McHenry, and a brother, Oscar Bryant.

    Funeral services were held at Neal Funeral home with burial in Orchard Hill Cemetery.

    Jean Henry Bryant of Oxford, Iowa died at Pleasantview Care Center in Kalona.

    He was born in Louisville, IL to Ray & Dessie Kistner Bryant.

    He served in the Army during World War II, spending 2 1/2 years in the Asia/Pacific Theater. He married Eileen Shebetka May 2, 1942 in Oxford. He was a farmer & worked as a Johnson County Deputy Sheriff for 17 years, ending his career as head of the Civil Department. Jean was in the fifth class to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and his grandson, Chris, was in the 185th class.

    He was a member of the Oxford Methodist Church, Hardin Township Trustee, Iowa Sheriff Association & was a lifetime member of the Oxford American Legion for nearly 65 years.

    Jean is survived by his wife, children: JoAnne, Janet, Richard, Randy, Janelle, & Keith; brother Ray; 20 grandchildren; & 17 great-grandchildren.

    Preceding him death were his parents, brothers (Oscar & twin Dean) sisters Leona Slagley & Dorothea McHenry.

    Funeral services were held at Oxford United Methodist Church with Reverends Diane Townsley & Harry Imlay officiating. Burial was in Oxford Cemetery.

    1916 - 2005

    Dean William Bryant Dec. 27, 1916 Dec. 7, 2005 Dean W. Bryant was born in Louisville, Illinois to Ray & Odessie M. Bryant (Kistner). He was one of six children and an identical twin raised on a small farm in southern Illinois. As a young man, he moved to Iowa to work as a farmhand. It was there that he met his future wife Geraldine B. Schneider of Cosgrove, Iowa. Within 30 days after the attack upon Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp to serve his country. Dean & Geri eventually found their way to Kern County where he was stationed at Minter Field during WWII. After the conclusion of the war, he began a career in the meat cutting business, eventually becoming half owner of Magunden Meat Locker. In the early 1980s, he decided to retire with 40+ years as butcher and began working part time for Aarons Home Center in the Plumbing Department. Dean was an avid bowler. He enjoyed all his friends and accomplishments tied to bowling, especially his plaques and trophies. A sports fan and grandfather, Dean also loved attending his great-grandsons sporting events. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Geraldine, twin brother Jean H. Bryant of Iowa, brother Ray H. Bryant of Utah, grandson Ron Bryant & wife Tyra, great grandsons Cole & Blake. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, brother Oscar, Sisters Leona Slagley, Dorothea McHenery, and son Ronald D. Bryant. Services will be held Wednesday December 14, 2005 10:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary Chapel.
