"Pete" entered the US Navy in 1941 along with his younger brother, Walter Bricker. Pete retired in 1961.
He served as a Gunner's Mate in World War II and Korea.

After his retirement from the Navy, he was convicted of murder when he robbed, beat, shot, and killed a man named Arthur Spotiseller in Long Beach, California on May 25, 1962. His accomplice was a woman by the name of Gladys O'Neil age 34. She died before Pete went to trial. Pete waived his right to trial by jury and was sentenced to life in prison. He died in San Quentin prison.

IVivian Grace Simpson, age 91, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Clay County Hospital.

She was born March 29, 1928, in Hogan, Missouri, the daughter of Ralph and Goldie (Hudson) Bricker. She was united in marriage to Bennie Wayne Simpson March 19, 1946, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and together they shared 64 years of marriage. He passed away June 1, 2010.

If you asked, who was our mother? We would say she was a daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, and aunt. She was the worlds best cook and pie baker, a spotless housekeeper, a friend, neighbor, and caregiver to family and patients. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Flora where she was strong in her faith. She was a child of The Great Depression who learned how to find strength in everything. She was a wonderful seamstress and worked hard for everything she ever had and would give it all to her family. She loved flowers, especially yellow roses. She is now free of all worldly chains, waltzing across heaven with our daddy. Now we must say goodbye for a short while. Until we meet again, we love you Mama.

Survivors include three sons: Herbert Simpson and wife Lois of Flora, Thomas Simpson and wife Margaret of Flora, and Robert Simpson and wife Lisa of Ingraham; a daughter: Ella Mae Mix of Cisne; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Patty Bright and husband Eber of Cisne; a brother: Carl Wayne Gray and wife Karin of Aurora, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by parents and stepparents: Ralph and Dorothy Bricker and Goldie and Morley Galarneau; husband: Bennie Wayne Simpson; three sisters: Lavera Hipes, Dorine Pearcy, and Martha Harris; and a son-in-law: Ron Mix.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Pastor Mike Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Clay City Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church.

Dorine was born November 25, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. She had lived in Johnsonville, Illinois and Westfield, Illinois before moving to Zion 10 years ago. She was a member of Westfield Baptist Church. Dorine worked approximately 20 years for Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County, Illinois. Later she worked in private homes in Lake Forest, Illinois as a caregiver. Survivors include two sons Austin (JoEllen) Kelley of Zion and Terry (Jill) Kelley of Greenup, Illinois; twelve grandchildren Heather Cummins, Heidi (Christopher) Daniels, Terri Kelley, Janie Wilkin, Barbara Kelley, Chad Pearcy, Stacie (Tom) Winings, Ralph Pearcy II, Tonya (Shane) Oakley, Stephine Chapman, Ryan Keller and Aaron Keller; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Vivian (Wayne) Simpson of Donavan, Missouri; one niece Cheryl (Clyde) Cokely of Gibson City, Illinois; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martha L. Harris, 53, of Paris, died 10:29 a.m. Monday (Feb. 17, 2003) at the Paris Community Hospital in Paris.

She was a homemaker. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 21) in Edgar Cemetery. Burial will follow. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home in Paris.

Mrs. Harris was born Feb. 12, 1950 in Flora, the daughter of Carl Gray and Dorothy (McDowell) Gray Bricker.

She married Walter Harris on Apr. 13, 1972 in Clay City. He survives. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Gray Bicker; a daughter, Lori Ann Boren of Kansas; a son, William Eric Harris of Eaton Town, Pa.; a brother, Wayne Gray of Aurora. Colo.; a sister, Patty Bright of Cisne; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harris was a member of the Community Bible Church in Paris.

68-year-old Ella Mae Mix of Cisne, went to her heavenly home on Monday, November 18 with her sons by her side at Cisne Rehabilitation Health Care Center.

Ella was born March 28, 1951 to Bennie and Vivian Grace (Bricker) Simpson at Flora, Illinois. She married Ronald L. Mix June 27, 1969 in Flora, Illinois and they enjoyed 40 years together, he preceded her in death February 8, 2009.

Ella loved helping people and was a registered nurse in Texas and Clay County. She enjoyed taking photos and studying genealogy. She was often requested to bake cakes for friends and family. Ella would often set for hours watching the familys horses. She was a member of Cisne Christian Church and strong supporter of Clay County Relay for Life.

Ella is survived by three sons, Travis (Shannon) Mix of Cisne, Illinois, Justin Mix of Iuka, Illinois and Jed (Hope) Mix of Jonesboro, Illinois; one sister Pattie (Eber) Bright of Cisne, Illinois; three brothers Herbert (Lois) Simpson and Thomas (Margaret) Simpson both of Flora, Illinois and Robert Speed (Lisa) Simpson of Ingraham, Illinois. Nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ronald.

Funeral service will be 12:00p.m. Saturday, November 23rd at Cisne Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00 at the church. Burial will be in Bunker Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Clay County Cancer Crusaders.

Terry was born January 29, 1956 in Flora, IL, the son of Grover and Dorine Bricker Pearcy.

He had worked at Trailmobile in Charleston and Pyroferric International in Toledo and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Terry was a member of the Greenup American Legion Post #566 and the Chance's R Pool Team. Terry loved playing pool, going fishing, hunting mushrooms and working in his garden. His greatest passion was his family and friends, especially spending time with his grandchildren. Terry was a diehard Cubs and Bears fan.

Terry married Jill Renae Smith in July of 1994 in Charleston, IL and she survives in Jewett.

Bridget Karrick, age 42 of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

Bridget was born on September 4, 1977 in Flora, the daughter of Eber and Pat (Gray) Bright and they survive in Cisne. She married Samuel Sam Karrick on September 5, 2015 at Cisne Christian Church and he survives in Salem.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by two sisters, Tracy Chitwood and husband Jason of Fairfield and Theresa Bright and significant other Amanda Ash of Cisne; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marian and Duane Karrick of Salem; nieces and nephews, Brooklyn and fiancé Corey, Austin, Toni and fiancé Evan, Erica, Bailee, Nicholas, Lily and Miley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Duane and wife Cathy, Mike and wife Lorie, Sherry and Cindy and husband Alan.

Bridget was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Bridget was employed as a merchandiser for Nabisco at Wal-Mart. She was a former teacher at Reaching for the Stars Daycare. She was a member of the Cisne Christian Church. She volunteered her time with the Marion County E.S.D.A. and loved dogs.

Funeral Services for Bridget Karrick will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Travis Nix officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be on Saturday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Wayne County Humane Society and can be received at the funeral home.
