    Notes:

Maxine M. Fryburger, 89, of Noble, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Richland Nursing & Rehab in Olney, Illinois.

Maxine was born on July 10, 1934 to Thomas and Ola (Fulk) Mitchell. She and her twin sister Kathleen were born to her parents who had 9 children live to adulthood. Not having a middle name, she proudly took Mitchell as her middle name when she married George E. Fryburger on June 18, 1956. They spent 67 years of marriage side by side before he passed on November 28, 2023. In the early years Maxine worked at the garment factory in Olney before spending her days farming with George.

After they moved to town, she became a care companion. She was strong in her faith and was an example to many. She made it her mission to provide a ready meal to anyone who sat at her table by hunting, growing food, raising meat and milking her beloved Brown Swiss cows. It has been said that more than once Maxine provided rabbit for supper by throwing a hitch pin from atop her tractor. She made several family cookbooks tying together her love of sharing family heritage and family recipes with others. She had a knack for witching wells and found water for many in the area.

Maxine and George had two children, Deborah (Richard) Hanson of Morris, IL and Bradley (Susan) Fryburger of Olney, IL. Maxine passed a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, history, resourcefulness and family pride to her grandchildren; twins Ellen (Tony) Brown and Emily (James) Schoonover, Jennifer (Andrew) Wolanik, Shelly (Phillip) Ahn, Jonathan (Ashley) Fryburger, and Kyle (Valeria) Hanson. She was adamant that her “Babies” (grandchildren and great-grandchildren) were good because she believed that they were and that they would never be too big to sit on a parent or grandparents lap. She had an endless amount of patience for not only her grandchildren but her great-grandchildren; Rayne Goff, Emma Brown, Cassidy M. Mitchell Brown, Norah Brown, Maggie Ola R. Brown, Tyson Brown, Joelle Brown, Reid Fryburger, twins Mitch and Jack Wolanik, and Brady Fryburger. She was happiest when the table that Grandpa had made was full.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren; Siblings Ruth Elaine O’Brien, Thomas (Glenda) Mitchell, Kay Miller, her twin sister Kathleen Hagen; and her many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband George; siblings Charles Mitchell, Lawrence Mitchell, Lois Hagen and Beulah Brown. She has loved and lost many other close friends, family, and those she considered to be family as well. She believed family was family, no matter how far down the line.

Maxine leaves behind a legacy of good memories, sayings, tips, tricks and most of all, love. She will be missed immensely.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning two hours prior to service time at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Hanna Cemetery.
