    Jerry Elias Bricker was born December 25, 1881, in Wayne County, IL, the son of Conrode & Lucinda Bricker. He departed this life on June 4, 1964 at the age of 82 years, 5 months, & 9 months.

    He was united in marriage on Jan. 17, 1916 to Mary E. Pettyjohn. To this union six children were born: two sons, Kenneth & Ivan, preceded him in death,, the former while serving his country in World War II.

    He is survived by his wife & four children: Mrs. Herman (Evelyn) Sullens, Roy, Mrs. Howard (Helen) Smith, & Harold Bricker.

    He spent most of his life in and around Clay County. He was a loving companion and father.

    The casketed remains of Pfc. Kenneth Bricker were returned to Clay City, Tuesday night, from a military cemetery in Italy where he was killed while serving with the U. S. Army on November 20, 1943.

    Funeral services were held at the Easley-Padgett chapel, with Rev. Fred Gordon officiating. Interment was made in the Clay City Cemetery. Military rites were performed by the American Legion.

    The deceased was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Bricker, who survive. He also is survived by brothers, Roy, Ivan & Harold; two sisters Evelyn Sullens & Helen Smith.

    He was born and raised in Clay City and attended school there. Before his induction into the service in February, 1942, he was employed as a truck driver. He was 25 years of age at the time of his death.

    Private First Class with Company A, 142nd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. Entered combat at Salerno Beach, Italy on September 9, 1943 and was killed in action on November 30, 1943. Earned The Purple Heart Medal and was otherwise entitled to the American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with at least one bronze battle star and The WWII Victory Medal. Buried with military honors at Clay City Cemetery, Clay City, Illinois. Honored also at the WWII Memorial in Flora, Illinois.

    Evelyn G. Sullens died at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL. She had fell and broke her hip on Friday and passed away Sunday morning.

    Evelyn was born in Clay County to Jerry & Mary Pettyjohn Bricker. She was married to Herman Sullens on September 25, 1937. They were married for 68 years.

    She was a homemaker. She was also a member of Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City. Her hobbies included baking pies, taking pictures, sewing and she enjoyed her family greatly. She taught Sunday School for over 40 years.

    Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Delbert Payne of Sailor Springs, and Betty and Ira Simmons of Clay City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Shirley Sullens of Lakeview, Florida, Tom and Myrna Sullens of Carthage, Texas, and David and Cathy Sullens of Kilgore, Texas; brother Harold Bricker of Clay City; grandchildren, Dean Payne of Sumner, Linda Norris of Sailor Springs, Albert Payne of Sailor Springs, Brenda Lynn of Clay City, Donna Stanley of Clay City, Wendell Simmons of Clay City, Diane Gill of Clay City, Steve Sullens of Florida, Rusty Sullens of Florida, Barbara Brance of Indiana, Rebecca Brown of Florida, John Sullens of Texas, Keith Sullens of Texas, Christiana Pritchett of Texas, James Sullens of Clay City, Dawn Epps of Texas, and Michael Sullens of Texas; 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchildren.

    Memorials were made to Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City.

    Roy E. Bricker, 94, of Flora passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Flora Gardens.

    Roy was born November 7, 1921 in Clay County, Illinois, the son of Jerry and Mary (Pettyjohn) Bricker.

    He married Erma Foreman on May 25, 1943 in St. Louis, MO. She preceded him in death on June 29, 1999.

    Roy was a WWII Veteran, worked as a farm hand, and for over 30 years was a tank truck driver for Abners Trucking, Gasken Trucking and Booth Oil. Roy enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, hunting and fishing and visiting with the grandkids and family.

    He is survived by his son, Roy D. Bricker and wife Janet of Flora, IL; son, Robert Dale Bricker and wife Regina of Xenia, IL; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Judy Frank, three brothers and two sisters.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on September 2, 1942 at Chicago, Illinois. After basic training as a rifleman, assigned to Company H, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry "Santa Fe" Division at Camp Butner, North Carolina. Departed the U.S. on May 12, 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Entered combat in vicinity of Moon-Sur-Elle, France on July 11, 1944 and fought through the rest of the Normandy Campaign and the Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Served as a squad leader (military occupational specialty 1607). Earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 silver battle star and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Corporal on November 5, 1945 at the Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.

    Harold was born April 3, 1929 to Jerry and Mary E (Pettyjohn) in Clay City Il. He married Mary Jane Camp on July 29 1950 and she survives.

    Harold worked in the oilfield tank service before working at AMF in Olney. He then became the caretaker of Clay City Cemetery. He took great pride in the cemetery, treating it like his own lawn at home. He enjoyed lawn work, working in his garden, and flying model airplanes.

    He was a US Army veteran serving first in Alaska and then stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clay City.

    Roy David Bricker, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, at his home.

    He was born July 16, 1944, in Olney, the son of Roy Edward and Erma Marie (Foreman) Bricker. He was united in marriage to Janet Darlene Brinkley during a ceremony at Bloom Baptist Church on May 9, 1975.

    Roy graduated from Clay City High School in 1962 and soon enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he worked in the oil fields for 35 years as a roustabout.

    He remained committed to his fellow veterans as a lifetime member of both the Flora American Legion Post 14 and the VFW Post 3999. Roy stepped up for leadership roles at the Legion Post, serving as both Commander and District Commander, and took great pride in leading the firing squad for military funeral honors.

    Roy appreciated classic cars and was particularly fond of his own red Corvette and CJ-5 Jeep. He was often recognized while driving his grandkids to Dairy Queen in those special rides. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends, especially enjoying the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Roy will be remembered for his hard work, service to his country, and dedication to others.

    Roy is survived by his wife: Janet Bricker of Flora; 4 children: Angie (Tom) Tolliver of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Leroy (Kelly) Martin, Kelly (Roy) Conard, and Kris (Kory) Snell, all of Flora; 13 grandchildren: David (Jamie) Tolliver, Matthew (Brittney) Tolliver, Andrea Branch, Dalton Zimmerman, Logan Stone, Megan Stone, Nathasha Stone, Emma Griffith, Lauryn Snell, Clayton Snell, Colton Snell, Jayden Conard and Khloe Conard; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother: Robert (Regina) Bricker of Xenia; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Gary (Sandy) Frank of Cloverdale, Indiana, Doug (Violet) Brinkley of Enid, Oklahoma, Dianna (Frank) Cricelli of Pocahontas, Kent (Donna) Brinkley of Flora, Maureen (Alan) Tolliver of Flora, and Sam Brinkley of Riverside, California.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Judy Frank; father-and-mother-in-law: James and Wanda Brinkley; a sister-in-law: Glenda Brinkley; and a brother-in-law: Larry (Martha) Brinkley.

    A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery with the presentation of military funeral honors. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.     Mrs. Frank was born Aug. 15, 1948 in Clay County, the daughter of Roy E. and Erma Foreman Bricker. She married Gary Frank May 30, 1969.

    She had worked as a line operator for Hella, and was a member of Clay City Community Baptist Church.

    Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Tina Anderson and Cathy Shehorn; father, Roy E. Bricker; two brothers, Roy D. and Robert Bricker; and three grandchildren.

    Preceding her in death was her mother.

    Graveside services were held at Smith Cemetery near Sailor Springs.

    Summers-Kistler Funeral Home was in Charge of arrangements.

    Monte served in the United States Navy. He worked in the oil fields for many years. Later in life Monte was a self-employed carpenter. In his spare time he was a licensed commercial fisherman. Monte took great care in hand-making all of his own nets and was one of the few people around with this skill.
