    Decatur – Genevieve O. Newsome-Gowan, 96, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Decatur.

    Genevieve was born December 14, 1919, in Findlay, IL, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Denier) Gordon. A hard working mother, Genevieve worked as a machinist at Borg Warner where she worked as a machinist. She was an active member of Covenant Methodist Church in Port Orange, FL, where she also served on many boards and committees.

    She is survived by her children: Arlene Enlow of FL, Maribelle “Ann” Vest of FL, Chris Vaughn of Decatur, and Gayle Gordon of FL; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Doris Greene, John Gordon, Jack Gordon and Wayne Gordon; 2 step-daughters, and many step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Genevieve was preceded in death by 3 husbands, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 step-son.

    Services to celebrate Genevieve’s life will be 2 pm, Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home; visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery.

    She was born in Shelby County, the daughter of Fred Raymond & Ruth Delight Denier Gordon. She married Stephen Earl Jennings on Feb. 10, 1946 in Clay County. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2001.

    She was a cashier at Alpha Beta Store, and a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Flora, IL.

    Survivors include three sons, Stephen, Douglas, and Danny L. Jennings; three brothers, John, Jack Lee, and Wayne; three sisters, Doris Green, Marilyn Bissey, and Jennie Gowan; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three brothers, and one sister.

    There were no services.

    Doris J. Greene 88, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in St. Mary's Hospital.

    Doris was born March 29, 1931, in Shelby County, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Denier) Gordon Sr. and was one of eleven children to that union. Doris married Keith Greene on June 30, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2009.

    Doris retired as a beautician. She also had formerly worked for Decatur Public School District #61 at Eisenhower High School. She was an avid Cardinal and Illini fan. She was a member of the Prairie Avenue Christian Church and was active in the Deaconess Social Committee. Doris was known for her pie baking ability and they were often requested by her family and church friends. In retirement her last years were spent at Tanglewood Village which she loved.

    Surviving are her son, Rod Greene (Patricia) of Naples, Florida; brothers, Jack Gordon (Mary) of Decatur and John Gordon (Norma) of North Carolina; grandchildren, Angela Gerber (Lenny), Matt Greene (Stephanie), Zach Greene, Luke Greene, Benjamin Bullock (Zhanna) and Justin Greene and six great-grandchildren.

    Doris was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Gordon; daughter, Melinda Shookman and eight siblings.

    Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek.

Bissey of Clay City; five grandchildren: Darlene (Jim) Coffin of Watson, Jacque (Tom) Holsapple of Hidalgo, Jacob Cowger of Teutopolis, BJ Keesler of Effingham, and Mariah (Nate) Wade of Seymore, TN; three great-grandchildren: Mitchell, Jonathan & Sarah; three brothers: John (Norma) Gordon of Franklin, NC, Jack (Mary) Gordon of Decatur, and Wayne (Sandy) Gordon of Mahomet; two sisters: Genieve Gowan of Pana & Doris Greene of Decatur; three sisters-in-law: Dixie Johnson of Olney, Imogene Gordon of Clay City and Norma Gordon of Florida; several nieces & nephews also survive.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Robert, Fred & Russell Gordon), and two sisters, Virginia Jennings & June Shoemaker.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday (July 11, 2009) at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

    Burial will be in Zif Cemetery in rural Wayne County.

    Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

    Memorials may be made to Clay City First Baptist Church or Clay County Hospice and may be received at the funeral home.

    Mrs. Dust was born September 26, 1950, in Flora, the daughter of Russell E. and Dixie J. (Hunley) Gordon. She married Howard H. Dust on June 9, 1972. He survives.

    She was a kindergarten teacher at the Early Learning Center for Effingham Unit #40. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway, St. Mary's Council of Catholic Women and Illinois Education Association, was active in Right to Life and was a board member for Catholic Charities.

    She is survived by her husband, Howard; one son, Joseph; one daughter, Sara; her mother, Dixie J. Johnson; two brothers, Richard Gordon, and Randy Gordon; and two sisters, Trudy Harris and Sondra Geiger.

    She was preceded in death by her father.

    Visitation was at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.

    Funeral services were at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway.

    Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Shumway.

    In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Catholic Charities, Right to Life or the donor's choice.

    Dona was employed at Hella Electronics in Flora. She had walked in 30 half-marathons, working towards her goal of completing them in all 50 states. She loved her dog companions Spurs and Lady.

    She is survived by her children: Darlene (Jim) Coffin of Effingham, Jacque (Tom) Holsapple of Hidalgo, and Jacob Cowger of Newton; and 3 grandchildren: Jonathon Coffin, Sarah Coffin, and Rachel Coffin.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: David Bissey; a grandson: Mitchell Coffin; and special friend: Jack Wiley.

    A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Zif Cemetery with Pastor Brad Harris officiating. Those attending should arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Friends of Kids with Cancer and will be accepted through the funeral home.
