    Notes:

    William E. Doherty, 78, of Olney, died at 4:24 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Richland Memorial Hospital.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sumners-Kistler Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Frost officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crest Haven Cemetery near Claremont. Military rites will be performed at graveside.

    Memorials may be made to Richland Memorial Hospital Home Health Services and Long Term Care Unit.

    Doherty was born Oct. 15, 1919 in Murphysboro, the son of Stephen and Eva (Jeffrey) Doherty. He married Violet Watkins in February 1979.

    He retired as store manager for General Oilfield Supply. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clay City and the VFW, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, and Masonic Lodge of Olney.

    He is survived by his wife; three sons, Tony of Los Angeles, Calif., Jeffrey and his wife, Barbara, of Carbondale and Michael Watkins of Centralia; four daughters, Mary Roberts and her husband, Richard, of Lawrenceville, Patricia Hamilton and her husband, Jack, of Bruceville, Ind., Kathy Bromeling and her husband, Lloyd, of Frazee, Minn. and Linda Beckwith and her husband, Jim, of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; one brother, Stephen Doherty of Mt. Dora, Fla.; six grandchildren, Clint Durall of Terre Haute, Ind., Jackie Durall Morrison of Columbus, Ind., Jamie Shidler of Stutgardt, Germany, Scott Roberts of Elizabethtown, Ky., Jeffrey Doherty of Carbondale, and Sarah Doherty of Carbondale; and three great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, and two grandsons.

    1930 Census says he was born about 1920.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on June 11, 1941 at Camp Grant, Illinois. Selected for the Field Artillery, completed basic training, assigned to Headquarters Battery, 183rd Field Artillery Battalion, and later qualified in the military occucupational specialty of Transportation Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). Departed the U.S. with his unit on June 22, 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Fought with his non-divisional 155mm howitzer unit in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned the Bronze Star Medal (VIII Corps), Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant on October 29, 1945 at the Separation Center, Camp Mccoy, Wisconsin.

    Patricia A. Hamilton, 61, of Bruceville, Ind., passed away at 10:57 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008, at her residence with her family at her side.

    The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bruceville Christian Church and prior to funeral services on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with Pastor Glenn Turner officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, Ind. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Hamilton was born November 1, 1946, in Richland County, the daughter of William E. and Betty R. (Kutch) Doherty. She married Jack W. Hamilton. He survives.

    She was a graduate of East Richland High School and attended Eastern Illinois University. She worked for Wickes Lumber for more than 30 years and continued with Timber Roots Lumber as an Inventory Supervisor. She was a member of Bruceville Christian Church and enjoyed the simple pleasures that life offered her. She was devoted to her family, her husband, her children and grandchildren.

    Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her husband, Jack W. Hamilton; her children, Clint Durall and his wife, Beth, of Carlisle, Ind., Jacquelyn Jackie Durall, of Vincennes, Ind., and Jeff Hamilton and his wife, Tauyna, of Salina, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Hallie Durall, Ashley Durall, Levi Hamilton, Khaleb Harris, Lindsey Hamilton, Kyreque Owen and Cierra Hamilton; brothers, William Anthony Doherty, of Vincennes, Ind., and Jeffrey Wayne Doherty and his wife, Barb, of Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her son, Sean Durall, in 1970; her parents, William E. and Betty R. Doherty; and sister, Mary Lou Roberts.

    Memorials may be made in Mrs. Hamilton's memory to Good Samaritan Hospital Lincoln Trail Hospice.

    He was a 1967 graduate of East Richland High School having established records in football and track. He was awarded a football scholarship to University of Illinois. He worked in the oil fields and worked at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Marine Corps. He received two Purple Heart awards for his service. He was a member of the Christian faith and enjoyed reading and the outdoors.

    Funeral:
    Graveside services will be conducted at the Crest Haven Cemetery Chapel in Claremont, Ill. at 2 p.m. EDT Saturday. Pastor Glenn Turner will officiate.
